Saturday, March 31, '12. restocking day?

I got a mishmash list of items I need/want from the grocery store and plan on doing a GOOD inventory  this morning  for completely restock the kitchen . Then head out later and reload.

AND I am disgusted with my Jeans!!! Last year I had replaced a couple of pair  and one of those pair either shrunk or were mislabeled . so I am seriously thinking of going to a real store that sells men's jeans ( Wrangler's)  and getting like 4 new pair and just tossing the others.

Also I could stand to replace my cargo type shorts I wear during the summer time.
And I don't think I'm going to try Wal Mart for those items.  I got these last pair there and they are the ones that are mislabeled or cut wrong, what ever.  :-(
( Umm, wonder if  I am due for some new socks and undies yet?  better check that also)

I didn't hit the Mega Millions Lottery with my carefully chosen numbers last night. Did you? and if you did would you really post that info on the internet?

I watched an older western last evening that I hadn't seen. Don't know I had missed it when it came out in '69, Pretty good one with several name brand stars. Mackenna's Gold   Had some early special effects and even nudity which was unusual for westerns .
You might enjoy it if you're a western movie fan.

Weather today should cooperate for what ever I decide to so today.  ( may get my neighbor to help me set the window AC in today)

Be Back , mo'coffee..

9 AM Thanks to anonymous poster for catching my spealing mesteake this morning. :-0>  I fixed it.

And I spent a few minutes trying to edit and upload my yard mowing recording I did yesterday. GOT IT!!  I speeded it up so that the 2 hours plus HD video now is only one minute 19 seconds.   Yea you can pause it if you want to.    HS yard mowing.   I needed to change the back cover on my camera housing cause it fogged up the lens. I'm guessing due to heat differences and the high humidity.

So now, once the drier finishes I think I'm gonna go head and get out to the store.  First thing I'm gonna do is get me some new jeans.  And then if I survive that chore, a few items from the grocery store.
Guys in general don't like to shop for clothes, I wish I had a personal shopper who would go get them for me, BUT you got to try them on huh?
Bet ya I'll be back later.

NOON 15  MADE IT!! Into and out of Target Super Store , scored two pair of perfect fit jeans, a big ole bag of undies, and one of socks!!  And even had time to swing by KFC and get my Texas Lotto ticket for tonight.
After I eat guess I'll go cull out my sock drawer, and hang new jeans and toss a couple pair of holey ones. :-) ( or save them for Sunday wear?  )

Friday , Mar 30, 2012 Piddling day I guess

Since I don't see any thing of importance written on my caulk board or on a note pad here , I guess I don't have any thing planned for today. :-)

I should get after the back yard/field mowing. Although it don't look like it's gonna rain anytime soon. But yea,.  git it whacked down now just in case I decided to do something out there.

I just might go buy me a ticket for  Tonight's  Mega Millions lottery since the record jackpot is up to $540 million as of this morning and still climbing.
Don't know what I'd do with all that money , but I'd figer out something huh?  :-)

Back when they started the Texas Lottery I used to say I'd pay off everything I owned if I won. But I'm debt free now so guess I could just blow it all on wine, women and  toys huh? ( first thing I'd do is get an unlisted telephone number and a cell phone with unlisted as well.)

In all honesty what  would you do with that much money?  One thing for sure I know my daughter and family won't have to work another day if they didn't want too.

I honestly think I'd stay right here were I am ,with a new house of course.  Probably buy the land behind me and fence it off and put in  a guest house  with plenty of parking.I dang sure would put in a chain link fence all around the whole place to keep out the riffraff  .

Enough of that day dreaming,:-)

Gonna get some more coffee  and gag down my pills and figer out what's next.I betcha it'll be outside mowing and the like cause it's gonna be too nice to stay inside for sure.

And finally this news story that is just NUTS!!  A blind man driving a car?
That's just absolutely nuts and should not happen in the real World!!\

11AM, dang it!!  Stopped to refuel the mower and got side tracked.   But I'll get back to it here in a bit.   Just had to go get me one of the power ball lottery tickets and check the mail. Then realized I needed to make Mo'tea, and it's close enough to noon, just as well eat huh?

4pm +   Fed the cats and decided , what the heck, so nuked me up some leftovers of my pizza.
I was going to dazzle you with an edited video of my yard mowing, taken with my HD camera. BUT, had issues with a foggy picture . Probably  cause by the housing being mounted on top of the engine cowling, temperature and moisture I guess. any who, the video wasn't worthy of uploading.
Think I'll kick my shoes off and after I rest a bit, go shower up ...

Bird alarm clock, Thursday, 3/29/12

My resident cardinal is back and was outside the bedroom window in the big old bush there just chirping his heart out! Starts in just before full dawn and  continues till he/she has woken up the whole bird neighborhood!!
( It maybe the female alerting that she had eggs in the nest, I'll have to check)

And speaking up waking up the neighbors!  One of the redneck white trash that live on the side street leaves for work each morning before I get up in his loud  race car.  Well I finally fingered out which  car it is . I thought it must have been a Pick up or maybe one of the larger ones that's over there Not up on jack stands .  NOPE, it's a dang ole beat up ford something.  I think it is one of the mustang wannabe's.  I'll have to get a picture of it to find out what it really is.

Seriously, he cranks that POS thing up and holds it at a high idle till he's ready to leave out , then all the way out to the road it's roaring. Once he turns onto the highway it fades away.  But it sure takes awhile.

Didn't hit the Texas lottery last night , so guess I won't be headed to Austin to pick up my money. :-)   So guess here after a bit I'll get a jump on the yard mowing.
Weather sure sounds like it'll cooperate.

Only other thing today is  long time buddy Bob has a birthday today!!
OF Course I know how old he is cause he's born the same year as I was:-) . He said he's taking his mother to lunch cause she had a BD last week but they missed it cause she was being treated for some minor aliment at the time. Our families have known each other since our mothers were grade school age, waay back when.

So, with all that taken care of, guess it's mo coffee time and git moving huh?
BBL

Well so far morning is a 50/50 deal. Breakfast turned out real good and I'm set as far as indoor chores are concerned. BUT my dammed back kinked up on me!! Don't know what caused that. But it may well put a crimp in my yard mowing idea.

That brings up a question you may have some suggestions about. I had applied  Weed Be Gone, ( home use agent orange) to certain areas.  Those areas have now died off and I'm wondering if I should go head and whack them down with the weed eater, or just let them sit and decay.
Got any idea or suggestion?

Guess since finished up coffee and got my pills gagged down I should get moving huh?

Afternoon report/update 3:15 PM and it cleared and yard dried enough I got out and mowed the front.  So the street view is fine now and I'll decided on working on the back at a later date.  Won't want the neighbor watch or home owners ass's to report me huh?  :-)

And I got an email with an attachment or a slide show of the Worlds Largest Cave.  However a little digging (no pun intended) I found the National Geographic Article of the cave.  Bout an hour but some pretty amazing stuff.. Take a look.   ( turn the volume up cause it's not real loud other wise)

Wednesday,March 28, '12. Nuther humpday

Remember that ole picture from your working days? Hadn't seen it in a loong time, just happened to stumble across it .

And if I am remembering right the bars and clubs located near business complexes always  had  hump day specials. Some of them had a buffet table  set up for certain hours and of course drink specials.

When I got out of the corporate  rat race , always working for someone else, I sort of missed the  comradery of fellow employes, but every  time my big ole check arrived I  quickly forgot about those poor souls chained to the desk.
Nowadays I sure don't miss the rat race at all.

Today the only thing Wednesday means to me is set out the trash and get my lottery ticket.:-)

You know What? Thinking back on it  when I was still cooperate, the best employer I ever had was Xerox.  Shoot , they sent me to schools at their expense at headquarters in Leesburg Virginia, gave me a car and all the tools I could possibility need to do my job.  ( had a beeper , cell phones weren't popular then) They  didn't rush me, no one breathing down my neck to hurry up ,  pretty laid back really.

After Ann and I got married I quit them to move to Alpine Texas and went into business for myself.
 Never worked corporate again.

That's all history, so what's up for today?   Still got the note I made to go get  Chinese food this evening so guess I'll do that.  Other wise just call  my dermatologist and have that short check up.

Otherwise , I got nuthing.. :-)

Mo Coffee.. BBL

9:30ish,  Terrorized the cats with the vacuum :-)   Always funny to see Tiny haul ass through the house looking for a cave to get into.
Strange thought popped into my head ( what else is new?)
Saw a comment on a random blog about a kid ( mid 20's) wondering how many miles he'll put on his car, thinking that 20,000 miles was a lot!! Dumb kid!! I've out over 40,000 a year on a lot of cars.  Then I got to thinking how many miles I have driven over my driving career.

Hard to figer,  but got my calculator out and got a very rough estimate of , 1,720,000 . That's just on MY cars, not counting company cars or truck driving jobs.

Got any idea on your mileage?  Of course in Texas  distances are larger than most other states.  For example a trip to the coast for me is about 550 miles one way  , Alpine is about the same, and it was nuthing for me to jump in the car and take off .
Course in the last 10 years the mileage has decreased. Bet I don't do 25K a year now.

Just the off the wall topic that I thought about this morning.

OK< off to do something.

Tuesday, March 27, '12, Hair cuttin' day.

Got to get this mop of head hair shorten up. I hate it when it drags in my plate while I'm trying to eat.  Called "my girl" and gonna go do the deed at 1 this afternoon, so I got lots of time to kill and get all hosed off  and the like before hand.

Boreing day , don't have anything else planned but will stop on the way later and get my drugs and swing by pick up a big ole bag of the snake repellant . Going to lay down a border/boundary on the fence between Blondie and me.  Let her keep her snakes!!

Speaking of snakes, Did I ever tell ya bout the time I had one get up on top of one of my windows?  Long time ago just after we moved here in '89!  Ann looked out the kitchen window and screamed!!!  There was a snake looking in the window!!  He had somehow managed to get up the outer wall and was laying across the top of the window frame with his head hanging down  on the window glass.
I ran out and grabbed the first thing I came too. A rake.  Hooked him and tossed/dropped him, and before I could pin him down he got under the simple deck we had then.  Of course we walked on tippy toes for awhile till we figered he had gone away to a quieter place.
That must have been about the time we started using the Snake a way product. :-)

Enough of that, giving myself the creeps! :-)

Gorgeous weather forecast today.

Afternoon cat feeding time 5 PM.

Managed to get my drugs picked up so I'm good for another month anyway. While at the store I saw a new meal in a bag thing that sounded good. Swedish meat balls with noodles and gravy. And it was.

BUT  did ya ever see a show or a commercial for something that make you just "gotta have it"?    I did , forget it was, but one of the items was a Chinese spring roll.
Man my taste buds and stomach instantly said   Gotta Have IT. So tomorrow guess I got up to the local place and get me a big ole plate of it. And an extra spring roll. OF course I'll get that hot mustard they got cause I love that stuff.

Last Monday of March, 26th, 2012

Looking at my calendar page laying here all marked up looks like it was a busy month , but I'll be dammed if any one day stands out more than any other.  Course still got 4 days for something exciting to happen.

Got a couple of Birthdays today, already sent E-cards to them.

Only thing I got to get done this week is my hair cutting tomorrow afternoon and today I am going to go walk into my Doctors office and pound on her girls head for an appointment , since she hasn't returned my calls.  It's a simple thing, she just needs to do a quick physical and form filling out to re-up my one prescription.

While I'm out doing that, think I'll swing by Lowe's and pick up some more Dr. T's Snake-a-way and apply it around the normal places. Doing that so I won't be surprised by another sneaky snake going across the yard.

Think part of the reason this last  one came over yesterday  is, Blondie's Yard is waste high  grass and weeds and she won't get anyone to mow it.  Probably all sorts of mice and other snake food over there.

Neighbor and I won't do it cause she don't pay well, AND there is all sorts of lawnmower damaging crap in that tall grass.

Liking this nice spring weather, actually had to turn on the whole house fan yesterday to suck in some outside air to cool off.  Should get my neighbor to help me put the window AC back in this big room  huh?  The small one in the bedroom I can handle by myself OK.

Maybe check the forecast and see if I'm gonna need it the next few days.

It's warmed up enough that I moved the big hanging IVY back out side , it'll go fine IF I remember to water it . :-)

OK, need mo coffee.  BBL

8ish AM   and sun's  up!!  Noticed it has moved far enough north that it is coming in the north window here in the den.  Here's a shot of it this morning.   That wall the window is on faces almost exactly due north.  As the sun moves of course it will get over onto the wall  a pretty good amount.
When this house was set in here we eyeballed it east and west long ways and got it almost exactly on line.

OK enough of that , got to get my tools and go move the hummingbird camera since I know for sure they are here now.  I have tried over the years to video or photograph them and finally just gave up. I ain't that good.
I can't open the window where the feeder is only a foot away  cause the cats will either go out or one of the birds will come in !  Yep, had both things happen over the years.
But will it being so close I can reach out and remove it for cleaning or refilling.

Gotta  keep moving  this morning.   Got things to do and people to see.

NOONISH.  Nice out, windows open..  no wind to blow papers off the table.

GOOD grief!!   Why the hell didn't someone tell me I had to get Medicare supplement insurance last year on my Birthday?     I been on the phone with doctors offices and finally USAA insurance( subsidiarity/contractor)   and finally figured out I'm pretty much screwed insurance enrollment wise till October!!   OH well,   hope I don't HAVE to have one until then huh?    Why did doctors quit taking SSI?   Don't pay enough?  Too much paper work?  What?
Grrrrrr.

Think here in a bit , after I get the kitchen straighten back up from supper last night , I'm gonna go wash off my filthy car. And of course that means a stop at Schlotzsky's since  it is next door.   I'll make the decision at the counter , medium for just lunch or the larger which will give me supper later also.  Decisions decisions.

Now I'm gonna talk a bit about a movie, you may or may not have seen.
Watched a movie some have called a classic. I don’t remember ever seeing it before now. The movie is an old one, silent film, The Birth of a Nation (1915)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Birth_of_a_Nation

I don’t think I had ever seen it. Interesting movie and not just because it is a silent film.  It could almost have been made just after the end of the War Between the States.
Basically I think it’s about the Klu Klux Klan  but I’m not sure.

One thing I did find interesting, there are of course a lot of blacks in it, but there are a lot of whites in black face trying to act like blacks.  But it just doesn’t work.  Sort of funny sometimes to see them doing the stereotypical things and actions that we expect to see blacks and slaves acting and moving.

I’m just guessing here but I betcha that if today’s blacks ever see it and it was to go mainstream , they would try to ban it, again.

Being that I am somewhat of a movie buff I was surprised that I wasn’t aware of it.  The name sounded familiar

I’m not saying you have to watch it (it’s long at 190 minutes) and you can’t turn away and follow it with just the audio, you have to watch it and READ the text.

Should you watch it?   Beats me, it’s a part of Hollywood history and now part of American History. There were  a lot of silent movies that "pushed the envelope" in terms of action and story lines.  If you've never watched some of the famous ones, you owe it to yourself to do so.  A lot of them are available on line .

Here’s a review of the protest of the movie, if you care to learn more about it.  http://chnm.gmu.edu/episodes/the-birth-of-a-nation-and-black-protest/
( side note: One of the female leads has one close face shot and she has a wandering right eye. it was pointed up and to the side while that other was straight ahead)

OK, KP duty calls..

Much later on this beautiful day , almost cat feeding time.  5 PM +/-

Heard some birds out back raising hell. So looked to see what.  A couple of the Blue Birds were really fussing at something on the ground. Then I saw it!!  A big ole snake making his way out toward the back.
Shoved my shoes on and grabbed the hoe outside the back door.

DAMMED!! It's the short handled one, that'll have to do.   Found him moving along in no hurry, judge my distance and WHACKED him severely around the head area a few times. This caused him to lose all momentum and lay still long enough for me to get to the barn for a larger hoe.  Returned and he had semi balled up.  finally got his head exposed and one well aimed WHACK and he's down for the count.   Hauled him out front to the ditch and tossed him as far as I could.   I DON'T LIKE SNAKES IN MY YARD!!!

I'll feed cats once my heart rate is back down near normal.

Saturday 3/24-12. Visons and Premonitions

You ever have them?  I'm sure you have, I know I have and I'll attempt to expound on some of mine later.
But first!  A slight routine change.  Gonna gag down a quick breakfast and head out early to my super size Walmart for a couple of items.

Two reasons for going this early.  One to see the sunrise and secondly there won't be the mad crush of people this early.

9 O'clock and I'mmm back!! :-)
So, This Saturday was one of those days, get up and git moving.  Dead calm, pleasant temperature , just a nice morning. So I ran up to
Wal Mart mainly to pick up what I forgot (canned cat food and breakfast biscuits, and onion)
I like going out early , IF I can make myself move that quick.

I was so early I beat the sun.. Short video of it coming up as I left… LINK

I mentioned premonitions. You ever had them?  That feeling that you just know something is going to happen or maybe as simple as you should call someone. And sure enough the phone rings and it is that someone.  Mother and I had that bit for years.

As for the premonitions, there have been the simple ones, like when I’m driving and think “ I should slow down “ and sure nuff there’s a big ole cop running radar or the lane is blocked over the next hill.

I guess the one that bothered me or rather hung around the longest was as a teenager I had the “vision” or thought, that something was missing. Like there was someone I was supposed to know or had known but couldn’t figer out who it might be.

Finally, back about 1979 after I had told Ann about it she suggested that I go ask my Mother. So I did, drove up there by myself and got her alone and we just talked.  I told her about this feeling and she related the story of my father, her first husband. Even told me the last address she had for him.

Well, after thinking about it for some time I decided to write him a letter. I mailed it off and went ahead and did a short trip I had planned locally. When I got back 2 Days later there was a note on my door for me to contact the local Sheriff.

Seems my Father had gotten my letter and tried to call, but when I didn’t answer he contacted the Sheriff   and left word for me to call him. (He had connections cause he was a former Judge in Jackson)

So I did call  and we talked a long time and he invited me to come over to Jackson Mississippi to meet him and the rest of the extended family.
So I took off a week of vacation and drove over.

Good Grief! What a culture shock! Old South People, with different values, manners . Lifestyles, everything.
That whole family was truly a hold over from the majestic ole South (pre War Between the States) (I just thought I was a racist bigot till I met those people!! Good Grief, I was a liberal compared to them) .

My visit was like the prodigal son returning.   They all knew of me and the elder folks had known me as a baby.  I didn’t know any of them. He had two brothers and a Sister and of course they all had kids. So one weekend there was a big get together and fish fry .
That’s where I met my cousin, she was a two years younger but when we met it was like we had known each other all our lives. Honestly!
Won’t go into all those details about her but she was troubled and we talked a lot on the phone for a few years.
But most of those people are gone now I guess, I haven’t heard from any of them in years and don’t know where they have gotten too.

Final thing, my birth name wasn’t anything like it is now. Daddy and mother had it changed when he officially adopted me.  My original was something like Walther Bartholomew Jefferson III ( no! I ain’t gonna tell you what it really was)

So, it's too nice to stay inside, I'm gonng try and find something to do out side..
C'ya!! !

Maybe after more coffee and what not, something will come to mind.

Bit later now and I was just fixin to get up and whup me up some breakfast when the local TV station had a dingbat cook on the morning show.  She was making Tofu bacon!!  BS!!! I didn't fight and claw my way to the top of the food chain  to eat plants , sticks, and leaves.  Give me good ole pork and beef!!
Yea, I enjoy a good salad on occasion but I load it up with ham or something to give it some body.

OK, near 9 AM  and I'm hearing sounds , and seeing colors so guess I'll be OK.  :-)

I was watching the local movie review on TV today and he was talking about the new movie  The Hunger Games.
The hype I been seeing on TV reminded me of a book I had read some years ago. I finally found that Book Title. Called The Long Walk.
I remember the book well, and think it would make a great movie. But doubt it'll ever be made.  Sadly most of the King's books that have been made into Movies didn't come across that good. I think one reason is that he does so much detail to set up the characters and the plot it would be cost prohibitive.

Here in a bit I'll gather up that big ole pile of papers and head off for my meeting with the tax guy  and see what I'm going to have to come up with to file taxes this year. ( hope nuthing) .
Then when that's over I'll get after the back yard mowing while I can see see that boundaries .

Guess I'll check back in after later huh? :-)

Early Afternoon report.

Took a break from the yard mowing ( already got the big easy half out back done) . Came in to get me a flop over weeny cheese dog. :-)

About that meeting in the tax consultant guy. All is good!! Since the income from mother last year was from a distribution of her estate and taxes were prepaid, I don't have to file on them .   ( we'll have to review again after this years distributions) So I can put that file back in the cabinet .

While I was out mowing, Doc left me a message and of course when I called back I had to leave her a message. :-(  ( Don't ya just hate playing phone tag)

Guess I'll get up a new tea and see if I can finish up the yard. Sure is nice out there, mid 70's, full sunshine, no wind.   Just good to be outside. :-) If I know you're coming I'll leave you some to practice on.

BUT wait a minute!!  Stumbled across a real dumb blonde video.  I dare you to watch this dingbat with out laughing out loud and slapping your forehead. Video

March 22, Thursday. Bluebonnets have bloomed up here

Noticed a small clump on the road outta here yesterday. First ones I have seen anyway. Now, if my Hummingbirds would show up I'd be happy.

Last year my first one ( that I saw anyway) was at the feeder was March 23, so it's time for the little flying pigs to show . I did pick up another bag of sugar cause once they do find the feed they suck it up  like a Hoover! :-)

My poor ole wall clock is sounding a little ill. It's a battery model ,a replica of an 8 sided Sessions School House model   that I had given the folks years ago. When we cleaned out the house I brought it here.
Daddy had done some "fixing" to make it not chime it's electronic chime so loudly. So I had removed all that and got it cleaned and keeping good time.
BUT the battery must be need replacing cause now it sounds terrible. Weak and out of tune.  Will put a new battery in it shortly.

Back in the 70's married to wifie No. 2, I  had several antique clocks and took pride in all of them being original and keeping good time.  Sort of miss them but not even going to attempt to get back into that antiquing hobby again. Hell I'm the only antique around here now. :-)

Speaking of fixing things, I got a notice from my dermatologist that's its time for a check up. All the cancerous growth places they had removed are looking good, but I got one place on my arm I need looked at, so I'll schedule that today.

AND I GOT  to get to see my regular doc to re-up my Blood Pressure meds. That may turn into an issue since the office had called and said she wasn't taking Medicare any more and gave me a couple of other docs to call.
Well, BS, I'll make an appointment and go see her and pay cash for it. Get a discount for doing it that way and I'll have another year before I have to see her again.

Seems like every year about this time I start a period of doctor visits for one reason or the other.   Just bite the bullet and get it over with huh?

Coffee...  BBL........

7:30 and just clicked on the TV to my local weather guy talking about and showing the rain  showers in the area.  Radar shows them just north of me moving away , so maybe it'll miss me and not screw up my plan. ( yard mowing)
Oh well, onto gag my pills down and some breakfast, with more coffee of course. :-)

OK, Plan change!  8AM plus, While making up breakfast I opened up the blinds.  NO MOWING today.. Wet out there!  But it all moving out and forecast for much drier staring tonite.

So, I'll go head and get gas today , then Tomorrow after my meeting with Tax guy I can git it done.

Quick as they open their offices gonna call my regular doc for appointment for check up AND the dermatologist for a review and check up on that stuff.

So, with this plan change today think I'll get all hosed off and call and see if I can get my ears lower. :-)

3:30 PM, Had the window open by the feeder and my first for sure Hummingbird showed up. Got him a big drink and zoomed off.. THEY'RE BACK!!!

OH and I l did go and get a can of gas for the mower, and a new pair of shoes for outside work. Even managed to get the same brand and style that I had.   Leather tops with a oil/gas resistant soul. Just happen to get the same brand as last time. Dexter's

Wednesday , March 21- 12

Does this month seems like it's dragging along?  I'm not complaining mind you it just seems like March so far, has slowed to a crawl. This is the last full week this month so guess we'll just have to hang in for a few more days to get to April.

Noticed that most of the trees have budded out in the area,  my Mimosa trees won't be far behind I'm sure.

Think I've told you before, the big one in front is a transplant from over at the farm where we had a huge one out front of the farm house. And the smaller one is an offshoot from it.  So if the farm one was the Mother, then I've got the daughter and granddaughter.

Somewhere I've got a picture of that original one taken in the early 70's.  If I can stumble across it I'll scan it and post it.

Daddy had taken out a Huge   mesquite tree over there when we moved there in '57 and planted that one in it's place. It got huge!!!
(update I found and scanned an old picture taken there in 1971. It's me and Mothers two dogs, Jax and Tilly)  Sorry it doesn't show the entire shade or tree, but you get the idea.

I paced off the shadow of it once years ago and think I remember correctly it was 68 paces across .  It was huge, I personally have never seen one larger. Some people don't like them cause of the mess the blooms make when they drop. I don't mind it,  does have a good sweet smell and the bees absolutely love it.

Guess I'll refill my mower gas cans so that if the ground dries up enough I can finish mowing the back in  the next few days. Front  is done. I got it the other day.

Well, Tiny is looking at me wanting me to open her door , so guess I'll do that .
OH Wait!! How's the weather outside?

Before I wander off, I had this thought while mowing this weekend.

Bet you got one of these guys in your neighbor or on your block, or you knew one like him when you got married and settled into your first house.

He’s the older fellow, may be married or lives alone since his wife died.  He doesn’t have a lot of company but on occasion a similarly old fellow will stop by and you’ll see them sitting in the shade drinking an iced tea most likely.

He may have the oldest house in the block but it’s well maintained.  IF he has flowers they are well tended but most likely if his wife has passed he probably won’t have but a very few.
He always makes a point to wave or nod when you pass but won’t bother you unless you stop, then he’ll talk your ear off.

He has two vehicles most likely and if he grew a country boy, one of them will be an older pick up, well used but he keeps it tuned and ready to go if needed.
He doesn’t go out much but it’s hard to tell because he isn’t outside like you and all the younger families your age are.

You think about him on Holidays and have considered asking him over for Thanksgiving, but just never got around to it.

You’ve probably watched him as he mows his yard with his big old yard mower and wondered why he does it so slowly. Why, if you had one that big you’d mow in high gear.  And speaking of mowing, you wonder why he does it mid week while everyone else waits till the weekend when they’re off work.
And when he does mow or work outside, you wonder why he wears long sleeve shirts and a big ole wide brim hat. Shoot  you’re out there in a tee shirt,  and cut off jeans soaking up all the sun you can get for a tan.  You don’t know that he has had melanoma removed already and is taking precautions.

You’ve probably never been in his house, but if you do get invited in he’ll offer you an iced tea or if a beer, he’ll apologize because he’s only got the two.

You’ll notice inside his house is neat most likely with a big nice entertainment center and lots of pictures on the wall. Old pictures they look like to you. And photo albums scattered around.

Well,.  It dawned on me just the other day; I’m that ole man. It was mid week, early afternoon as I was mowing my yard.

When I mowed out here early February 1989 the fellow next door was that ole man, but he and his wife moved off long ago and both have since died. Other than Grady and his wife up the side road, who are older by 10 years or more, I’m the oldest in years and have been here longer than any others except one couple who moved here a week before I did. He is my age but his wife is much younger.

Just what I thought of while riding  the John Deere  the other day.

Wet Tuesday morning, March 20, 2012

Sounds like Mother Nature is trying to make up for last summers lack of rain all at once round here. Went to bed with thunderstorms over head moving through and guess it did that all night, and it's still doing it this morning.
( poor ole Tiny is not fond of Thunder and stayed curled up next to me all night, and even this morning is laying right under my chair.  Poor Baby)
I tried my regular weather reporting site this morning and it must have washed away. :-) . It's not showing up anyway.   Will try it later and when it comes back I'll update ( weather link)

My weather gauge here is showing I got 2.70" in the last 24 hours through 5 AM this morning .  Sunrise:     7:34am
NWS forecast: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1pm. High near 71. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph becoming south southwest. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Regional  radar  shows the movement and it should  move out later.

Looks pretty nice once we get this front out of here.

Gonna get more coffee... But I'll be back I bet ya.

8AM almost nearly. Light enough outside I can see the standing water finally. Out around the barn there is a lake!! And  on the other side of the house between me and neighbor to the east is a small river!!  I haven't seen this much rain in years.
My place is on a hill and once it quit here later, ( By noon it should be clear)  the water will drain off into the big ditch and on down through the ole sewer holding ponds , down into the creek and end up eventually in Lake Arlington.

Reminds me that here in just a bit going to slosh my way to the barn and get a picture of the high water and where it is getting into the barn under the doors.  When I finally get  a contractor out here to do some modifications I want to be able to show him where the water is at times like this.

Quick nearly noon update,  My 24 hour rain total was 4.19"!!

Afternoon report  Cat feeding time 4 PM.  Dagnabit!!! I decided to load in a new email program so downloaded Thunderbird by Mozilla.  It loaded OK but would not import over my info from MS outlook. I read and copied and printed instructions and never could get it to work.  %*&^&^%******.   Hope I can find a local someone to help me get it set up . Found out that MS Office has some serious security holes in it and want it gone.

Monday March 3-12, RAIN!!

Well, all the local weather guys been talking about this upcoming rain and looking at radar, it's due in here in a few hours. Rain associated with this front that is coming in from the west should move in here mid morning and linger for the next 24 hours or so.
Did I get up on the roof and replace that one noisy Turbine vent?  NO!! And dang sure won't do it today. I may go get one later and have it on hand. . This one ain't leaking but in a low wind it is making noise. Once the wind picks up it quietens down. And of course it is most noticeable when I'm laying in bed all nice and snuggled in,  because it's over that room.
It''s a pretty standard model like this one.  Just take the ole one off and slide on the new one and screw it back down.

Now, about this weather that's moving in.

69.9 °F
Mostly Cloudy
Humidity:     80%
Wind:     8.0 mph South
Wind Gust:     28.0 mph
Visibility:     10.0 miles
Dew Point:     64 °F
Precipitation:     100% chance of precipitation
Pressure:     29.79 in (Steady)
Sunrise:     7:35am

NWS forecast: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 7am. Some storms could be severe, with heavy rain. High near 80. South wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

BTW, since I woke up early this morning I clicked on 'puter and watched an episode of Magnum P.I. ( using the free Hulu service)  .  yea, the ole TV Series with  Tom Selleck as a Private Investigator in Hawaii. Loved that series and none of my local stations are running it.
Trivia question. What was the name of his buddy's bar? ... Give up?  ...'Rick's Cafe Americain'  a vague reference to Humphrey Bogart's place in Casablanca.

OK, Been up long enough now ( 6AM)  guess I better gag my pills down and figer out breakfast.. ( remembered I had scribbled a note for what to eat.  Scrambled egg sandwich )
BBL

9AM and a little.. I got my ladder out and went up on the roof to investigate that turbine vent and measure it.  There ain't a dammed thing wrong with it!!!  All nice and tight, not a wobble out of it. ( that picture is a stop action from the fast shutter)
I stopped it and examined it closely.  I can not determine where that noise is coming from. Same with the other one down at the oppisite end of the house. Maybe I got ghost in the attic that only come out at night? :-)

Guess I'll quit worrying about it. The mounting screws are all tight,no rust, no bent blades or brackets.. Beats me.

So, with that investigation out of the way I'll find something else to do  before the rain moves in.

NOON:30   Dang weathermen missed the rain forecast .. So I checked my radar and YEP, I got time to mow at least the scraggly front yard before it gets here.  IF I got enough gas that is.
So I'll get right on that. Quick as I finish my corn dogs that is. :-)

Afternoon Cat feeding  time.  Well some time ago I did get out and mow the front . Dang wind blew all the cut grass back on me. Looked like the jolly green giant once I finished.  Think here in a bit I'll get all hosed off and  make me up a big ole bowl of Top Ramen noodles with all sorts of stuff added to it.  Just sounds like a good idea to me.
Rain never did make it here , dang weathermen missed it. Radar shows it went West and north of here.

3-18-12. Sunday and No lottery winner here at this house.

Well , all my skillful number crunching and decision making ( coin flipping) didn't do me any good last night for the lotto drawing.  Only got one number right. But , I wasn't the only one who missed them.. NO ONE hit it so the jackpot rolls over to $13 Million. That'd buy a tank or two of gas huh :-)
Got up pretty normal time this morning,so guess we  ( cats and I ) have adjusted to the time change OK.
Course first thing, after coffee , was get over to Hermit Jim's blog for my morning cartoons.. This morning it's all bugs!!  Sunday Morning Cartoons

Expecting the weather to change to the wet side of Spring pretty quick so guess I'll do what outside stuff I may find early and get it over with.

Saturday, March 17. St Patty's Day. 2012

I remember well back when I was running around chasing womins and trying to drink up all the beer in Texas, that on this day , if I'd tell the bartender it was my birthday I'd get all the green beer I wanted  FREE... :-) I tried my best to drink up all that green beer UNTIL I noticed it was coming out the same color as it went in!!   :-)
Sure am glad I outlived those days.

All in all I fingered that being born on Saint Patrick's Day was something special.  Easy to remember for sure .  One other brother is born this month as well. Brother Woody's B- Day is 26th, and old, long time bud Bob's is the 219th.
And NO I ain't got any green on!! :-)

Weather's still going to happen today  no matter what , so....

Don't know what's up for today , well, other than get my winning lottery ticket later.
I "may" go load up on some seafood stuff from LJS.  Or not.

Right now it's more coffee.....

9AM plus... Got breakfast, coffee, pills and all that outta the way.
I had moved one of my cameras so that I could get a good view of the Humming bird feeder outside the window behind me. Been expecting a humming bird to show up just anytime now. Last year I saw the first one on the 23rd, but sort of figured they may be early since it's been so warm.   Ain't seen a one so far.  Sort of surprises me since we had such a mild winter.

3:30ish PM.  Got a complaint about Subway!!   Went up for one of my favorites.  Got it home and I BE Dammed the bread is not today's!! Got to be a left over loaf from yesterday.  First time that's ever happen.   Taste fine.

After I got that outta the way I went to the barn and drug out an old homemade wind chime I had stumbled across not long ago. I made back in the 70's or 80's. Long before I found out you could actually tune one.  Used electrical  EMT parts  , like the cover for an EMT 4-0 box, and a cover for a junction box . The chines are just cut and drilled plain ole EMT conduit.  It had fallen some years ago and I just tossed it in the barn. Found all of it except one pipe, I'll stumble across something some day to replace it with . So now I got 4 hanging, tinkling in the breeze. :-)

Friday 3.16.12. Spring is offically here I guess.

I guess I can exhale now. Been holding my breath waiting for that one last cold snap and freeze but don't guess it's gonna happen. Course I haven't officially looked at any mesquite trees to see if they have budded out yet but betcha they have. The only trees of mine that haven't budded out are the two mimosa's  , everything else if greening up quite nicely.  Haven't seen any bluebonnets or paint brush yet. The robins have pretty much moved on but still seeing herds of about 20 or 30 come in and work over the back yard area daily.  Speaking of trees, I got two of on the east fence line that "may" have to come out. After last summers extreme dry, they ain't looking too good. I'll give them a while but keep it the back of my mind to take them out this fall if they don't bounce back.
May get some rain this weekend and for awhile. If the weather guessers are right.

And if you notice the time stamp you'll see it's real early again, 4:36 as I type.  Yep, woke up all twisted up in the bed covers and didn't fight it , just got up! Guess I'll go through this for about a week then hopefully settle back into a more normal routine.

I had mentioned that  I would think about trying to post a story about my time spent in hot air balloons. So I worked on it last evening. But no matter how I word it , it just doesn't do it justice.  I guess I'm not talented enough as a wordsmith to convey the feelings, sights and sounds with the sport/ hobby.
But here goes anyway.

Time has dulled my memory but I’m pretty sure the first Hot air balloon rally we attended was 1984 Albuquerque International Fiesta.  We were staying with Ann’s Aunt Clara and she mentioned an article in the paper about it.   So we went!. Had no idea what to expect except what we had read.  Turns out we stumbled onto a sport/hobby/ love affair that would almost consume us.  Just so happened that on the first day we met the president of AIBF (Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta as it was called then. http://www.balloonfiesta.com/) who just happen to live near us in Los Lunas.   We just served as volunteer crew that day but I did get a short ride with Charlie and wife Jenny.  Dammed I was hooked!!!

Found out they lived near us and they invited us over to dinner and meet some other local balloonist.  Shoot, I’m going to abbreviate this story cause it could go on for pages and pages. Suffice it to say we met the cream of the crop in the ballooning world by crewing on their balloons. We learned and studied and got our student licenses and log books and started logging training flight time with different pilots in different balloons.  A balloon pilot is governed and licensed by the FAA with a lot of the same rules and testing as a private pilot.  Have to know your system top to bottom, emergency actions, safety systems,  load limits , flight rules,  etc etc.  Plus unlike fixed wing pilots, we have to know our fuel system much better. Our fuel is Propane. Different balloons carry different types of tanks and sizes . Generally 30 or 40 gallons. Different manufactures use different burners. Some use a line from one tank that burns liquid propane to keep the pilot light burning , while some use a vapor pilot light  that draws it’s fuel from the top of the tank above the liquid .

The one we ended up buying was made in England by Cameron Balloon Works Limited but they now have a plant in Michigan . We didn’t buy it till we moved back here to Texas.  This is a picture of it. My balloon XTC

You want details?  Ok. 8 gores or panels and held 65,000 cuft of air. FAA rated as a AX-7 size category, pretty standard size for private balloon.
It was rated at 1300#  FAA weight rating. The “system”, envelope, basket, tanks and rigging was 186# standard weight.
Stood up 55 feet tall and 54 feet diameter.
Usually on a flight I’d take one heavy passenger or two small or normal size people.

I know you’re going to ask how hot it gets in the envelope.  OK, Red line was 275 best I remember and I usually flew at about 150-180 dgs in the top of the balloon. Yes there is a sensor up there that is wired to my gauge panel. Panel showed me temp of balloon, altitude and rate of climb or descent.

We liked to have a crew of 4 to set it up and retrieve it when we flew.  That means me, as PIC (pilot in Command) Ann as PIC2   and 4 crew members but at NASA for that rally for example we had a crew of 20!!

Wasn’t hard to find volunteers EXCEPT we tried to launch at official civil dawn and that was way too early for some.
Down here we had a normal regular crew of 6 which was enough.
Over the years of flying I’ve inflated hundreds of balloons and every dammed time, after we laid it out, inflated it with the gas powered fan and light the burners to heat it up and stand it upright. I couldn’t spit enough to put out a paper match!

What a rush seeing that big ole pile of colorful nylon come to life!
Here's a short example of what it looks like when you finally start the burner to stand it up.  BURN!!

I guess one of my most personal favorite flights was with a buddies balloon over near Los Lunas NM.  We were flying out in the desert with no houses or power lines to interfere.  He put me in charge and just rode along. I had it trimmed out so perfect I was just skimming the tops of sage brush in about a 15 mph wind.  Realize you can’t just blow heat up into it and expect it to stay, it cools off and when it does it drops. If you’re real good you can maintain level flight. and that day I did 2 feet off the ground flat and level. (I did have to jump one fence)

OR maybe it was the fight in XTC when we drove from here, Back  to Los Lunas NM  fly in the St Patty's Day ralley that we helped start. I had a buddy with me and when we lifted off the winds took us straight to the Rio Grand River. I managed to hold the basket just kissing the water for as long as I had room too. Called a splash and dash. and Yea, you got to be real good and real stable or the weight of the water in the basket will pull you into the water!!!

Highest I’ve ever been in one?  Just over 5000 ft above ground level.  Which put me right at 10,00 feet above sea level cause the launch site was around 5000 feet just south of Albuquerque and at that height the air was a little thin to say the least.  Couldn’t keep a cigarette lite.

We sold ours after about a year and half , two reasons. One we couldn’t get the flight time here like we did in the near perfect conditions in NM ,  ( I flew 50 weekends one year over there)  Our winds and weather here just wasn’t as good . That and it was costing me a bunch with it just sitting in the barn. What with insurance and maintenance, coupled with the poor job market put us out of the sport.

I got hours and hours of video if you ever got a few hours !! And two huge photo albums to bore you with.

Mo' coffee..

OK, Sit your coffee cup down. SPEW WARNING!!

A firefighter was working on the engine outside the Station, when he noticed A little girl nearby in a little red wagon with little ladders hung off the sides and a garden hose tightly coiled in the middle.

The girl was wearing a firefighter's helmet.
The wagon was being pulled by her dog and her cat.

The firefighter walked over to take a closer look.
'That sure is a nice fire truck,' the firefighter said with admiration.

'Thanks,' the girl replied. The firefighter looked a little closer. The girl had
Tied the wagon to her dog's collar and to the cat's testicles.
'Little partner,' the firefighter said, 'I don't want to tell you how to run your
Rig, but if you were to tie that rope around the cat's collar, I think you could go Faster. '

The little girl replied thoughtfully, 'You're probably right, but Then I wouldn't have a siren.'

March 15, The Ides of March, 2012

Yep, this is the day that ole Julies Caesar met his end.  Happen a long time ago, but of course Hermit Jim has all the details .   Et too Brute? Yea, I  et. You?

I always loved Shakespeare's  play and in particular  the Speech by  Mark Anthony.

Saw a blip on the news last night that the Flight Museum over at Love Field in Dallas is having a special showing this weekend. They flying in a P-51, B-17 and my favorite the B-24, like Daddy was in during WWII .
I thought seriously about going but I absolutely  hate Dallas and anything to do with it.  But I'll kick it around and may venture over tomorrow.  Maybe is the prime word here.

First off this morning I got a funny for ya
How many of the  Apostles can you fit in a car?
All of them. It says so  in Acts 2:1 "...they met in one accord."
sorry,, hope lighting don't strike me..

Think here in a bit I'll get all shaved off and then shower up . Since the yard and outside stuff is done, I don't have to worry bout getting all hot, sweaty and dusty for a while.

This was one of those wake up waaay to early mornings,  so here at 6AM + a little I'm bout coffee d out already and hadn't even had any breakfast.. Guess I should do that huh.
After  bit I'm gonna wander over across the front streets and see what the tractors were doing at the empty place over there now. From what I could see, they mowed a lot and then started in shoving trash and debris  from where the ole trailer house was shoved down . Not sure but I'll got look later.
Wonder if they got a buyer for it?  And wonder if the Realtor told them it ain't got water service and won't have till they spend big bucks getting a septic system installed :-) ?

BBL...

10 AM  Well, been watching history films all morning, About WWII in Europe mostly .
This is the collection I am watching in case you wondered.

Hadn't even had the TV on other than while I ate just to get the local news.

I DID get in and get all the wild hairs scrapped off my face and then scrubbed by body to a nice bright sheen!   Safe to go out in public again. :-)

Been thinking bout eating later.   Think I've decided that when I go for the mail , I'll run by my big store and pick up a package of their fried chicken and some potato salad.  (pork and beans I got.. )  That'll make me a good lunch and leftovers for supper even. :-)
Sometimes I just get chicken hungry, don't you?

I was going to write you  up a big ole long story with pictures and what not about some of my hot air ballooning experiences, but shoot. That's gonna take longer than just a few minutes so I'll work on it and post it up some other time. ( but don't hold your breath waiting for it)

After I showed it dawned on my that all my pubic wearing jeans was dirty so that load is washing now. Soon as it finishes guess I'll git out and moving since it's all sunny and nice outside.

See ya....

Grrr,, don't ya just hate it when not even you own family members can get your name right?   Got a big ole form from the gas company that is setting up to distribute the funds from that deal  and my Middle Intial is wrong!!!  Good Gawd I've had it since the first part of the last century so you'd think all my brothers know it by now .

So then I decided to call the gas production and see how hard it was going to be to correct. After waiting 30 minutes for a person finally got a nice lady who looked at the form and said she could fix it..

Then,,, she came back on and said she was transferring me to someone.. All I got at that number was leave a message message. GRRRRRR!!!

Early Wenesday March14, 2012

Shoot, I'm going to do a change today. I got stash of 36 DVD's I had bought that cover America's Stories of all our wars . ( also got a couple of good war theme movies included) . Watching one on occasion I have only gotten up through most of WWI.So I think this morning I'm just gonna put  them on and watch for awhile.

I'll catch up later.

67.1 °F
Mostly Cloudy
Humidity:     79%
Wind:     9.0 mph SSW
Wind Gust:     20.0 mph
Visibility:     10.0 miles
Dew Point:     60 °F
Pressure:     30.06 in (Steady)
Sunrise:     7:41am

NWS forecast: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. South wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Well, So far I've managed to screw off till 11:30. Well I did get the mower out and trimmed around the trees and fence line. I do that on occasion so that now I can mow in any direction with out having to backup, trim and area , then continue on. I think that in the long run it's faster that way.

Sun hasn't come plumb out yet. But I have checked the mail and got my lotto ticket so I'm set should something else come up today. :-)  OH, and remembered to set my trash out for pick up.

Did notice on my way to the PO that a couple of the neighbors have started mowing. Looks like across the street the realtor has a crew out cutting that mess.
And the older couple up on the corner got a kid (grand kid maybe?) and he is out showing him the mower and the boundaries.
Phoopey, it's so close to eating time, do I start in or wait a bit , since I ain't on no time clock think I'll sit a minute and think on it. :-)

Well Well, Well.  Not even 3PM yet and now only is the entire yard mowed but  I found time to spray agent orange on some offending areas.   And I saw a Monarch butterfly. YES , I do know the difference between them and the Swallowtail.
I'm not 100% sure but I "think" I saw a humming bird zip by.  Just caught a glimpse out the corner of my eye. But...
Course while mowing the back area I had an idea of how to convert the barn to something useable.  Like a place to park a small travel trailer when I get it, still keep my mower and what few tools I got left.   AND  even make a habitable guest area with all the accommodations, like hot and cold running water, shower, commode,  small kitchen area and a sleeping area, just in case someone shows up to visit some day .  The plan in my mind anyway would involve taking down the entire barn and constructing new on the slab that is here.   (reason being the door openings are too low for vehicle passage)

And I know just the guy to have come look and talk to me about.  ( just as soon as I can find his  card :-)  ) Found him!!! http://www.yelp.com/biz/aleshire-mobile-home-repairs-mansfield

Tuesday March, 13, '12 Outside time today fur sure!

Sure do love it when the weather gets this way , that I ain't running the AC nor the Heater!!  In Fact I didn't even turn my 'lectric blanket on last night. :-)
Good ole Texas, our winters can be brutal BUT  they are short and then back to glorious spring and summer ..

Gotta do  this before I forget.

Daughter sent over some art work done by brilliant and talented Granddaughter  I just gotta show ya. First thing I thought of was Andy Warhol and his soup cans or the sunflower picture.  Girl's got talent I tell ya.  Get's it from her brilliant folks. ( and her grandparents of course. :-)  )

Now I gotta tell ya about my blood letting last night. I was sittin here minding my own business all nice and warm,so I pulled my socks off.   Noticed a spot on the side of my foot up near the toes that itched. So I scratched it, then dabbed it with a napkin.  Didn't think anymore about it.  Well, a bit later I crossed my legs and felt it again. Looked at it and BLOOD!!!  Good Gawd I was leaking like a stuck hog ( or Barney the  OFM, when he gives blood at the Red Cross) so I grabbed a napkin and soaked it up off my foot, got another and dabbed at the pool on the carpet. ( Pat it don't rub it!! )

Well BS, that didn't work. So got the blood flow stopped and got half a roll of paper towels and kept dabbing at the pool.  Finally got most of it up. Then had to find my Woolite Carpet cleaner spray.. Sprayed a clop on it and worked it in like the directions said to do.  Let that dry and vacuumed it up , like instructed. Repeated as necessary.   Finally got it up and gone. ( or made the spot so small you can't see it if you fluff up the carpet.)

Now I got to go head and vacuum the rest of the room cause I got this one real clean spot .. grrr..

Whew, just thinking bout it makes me tired. :-)

Weather today looks fine for getting out and about as needed here ( more mowing? )

NWS forecast: Partly sunny, with a high near 80. South wind between 5 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Last night I made up one of those big ole meals from a bag.  Had pasta, chicken, onions, seasonings and a cheesy sauce.. (I added some chicken tenders I cooked up). What I didn't see on the label was the  broccoli!!!  Took me 30 minutes to pick all that nasty stuff out.. I like it fine raw dipped in sauce, but absolutely can't stand it cooked.   Same with collie flower....

I kinda expected Buddy Jim down Austin way to drop by on his way back from the Oklahoma Casinos.  Nope!!  Found out he didn't go . You'll have to read what he was up to your ownself. He went south to Terlingua . Think I'll reconsider any other trips down to visit him in the desert.

And finally before I get more coffee and figer out what today's big adventure is going to be... I saw the following on another blog but for the life of me can't remember where. So.. here it is anyway.

A father was approached by his small son who told him proudly, "I know what the Bible means!"
His father smiled and replied, "What do you mean, you 'know' what the Bible means?
The son replied, "I do know!"
"Okay," said his father. "What does the Bible mean?"
"That's easy, Daddy..." the young boy replied excitedly," It stands for 'Basic Information Before Leaving Earth.'

Monday it is, March 12-2012

Think it's almost time I can take the electric blanket off the bed.  Was only 53 for a low last night here, so real spring time can't be that far off huh?  Maybe I'll wait till I start seeing 60's for low temps,
Weather today, now that the line of weather had moved off for awhile .....

Ummm, that little leprechaun on Saturday reminds me ,,  another BD. :-)

Looked out back and front once it got light enough and with the perfect weather , the grass has gone nutzo!! Guess after it has a day or two to dry off good I'll have to get out and whack it down.  BUT if this summer's weather is like last summers  with the drought , won't have to mow it for long huh?

Did any of you old fart men watch CSI Miami on CBS  last night?  You didn't??!!!  Good Lord Man you missed seeing the most beautiful woman alive in the World Today!
Raquel Welch had a major guest role as a rich land owner .  Does that woman never age?  Good Gawd he's  SHE's older than I am ( 72) and still the best looking woman around by a long shot!!  Don't believe me?  Take a look

And I need to make a comment here to a Birmingham who attempted to make a comment yesterday.  For some reason the comment ended up posting as if it was a few days ago.
You can still read it here since it saved.  Missed Comment.   Sorry sir don't know what caused that.

Let's see, what's on the calendar to today? ,ummm,,   Nothing!!  So I can screw off anyway I choose huh?
Well, at least till the mail comes in. I'm still waiting on one form so I can finalize and submit my tax filings.   I could go ahead and file, BUT when that one form comes in I'd have to file an amendment and I don't want to confuse the IRS anymore than they all ready are don't you know.

OK Enough of this,, Mo' coffee and breakfast .  BBL

Bit Later now, 10ish +/- . Decided to go git a short bit of running done. Nuthing serious, just run up and find out what I owe my mechanic. He just dropped the truck here on Friday and said to catch him sometime this week. Plus I got the real time Code Reader box mounted and want to see what it shows while in real time .
I tried to count the robins out back and got to 80 +/- before they did a mass fly away.   DUH!!! Why didn't I just take a picture and then blow it up and count them that way?  Jeeze..

Well, phoopey!!! Noon plus.
I got all ambitious and went to the barn mound and determined to make that big ole sprayer that hang of the back of the tractor work.
Checked this wire and that wire and that wire over there.  All good.. So put a new fuse in it. LIB!!! It turns on!!!
Won't suck though. Flew out the intake and outflow with air , they all clear.   Dammed I bet one of the diaphragms is busted. it ain't a rotatory pump. So now do I throw money at it for parts?  or just continue on with my hand help pump sprayer?
Simple choice,, hand pump!
So, that problem is outta my hair, now all I gotta do is take all that back off the mower so I can attack part of the yard after lunch.

Sunday Morning, March 11, 2012. Still raining here, but my clocks right. :-)

Woke up just fine and dandy this Sunday morning. 6:45AM on the Adjusted Clocks. :-)
Hearing rain out side still and gauge is showing 1.24 in over the last 24 hours.   But!! It's supposed to quit later this morning when this front moves out.

Heavy Drizzle
Humidity:     89%

Visibility:     2.0 miles

NWS forecast: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before noon. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 69. Southwest wind between 5 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

With this rain I was reminded of a song from back in the day.  B. J. Thomas , Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head.  Yes , from the movie.

Y'all listen to the music and I'll get more coffee and work on the comics. Check back in a bit. OK? ( btw, 7:05 am here)

10AM and got all my breakfast finished up,dishes washed up,  kitchen clean and ready for me to mess it up again. So.. pretty normal day so far.  While watching CBS Sunday morning I saw the most beautiful commercial for Cartier watches and jewelry.   Take a watch ( no pun intended)
The cat in the commercial is just beautiful.  Zoom it out full screen for the best effect.

Shoot , here I am all finished up with morning routine and want to get to the store, but they can't sell my wine before noon, so I got a couple hours to kill.
Now what? :-)

Early afternoon check in.  nuthing but round ball played by way over paid druggie guys on TV so found me a western to watch.
Which made me think, You ever notice that most of the western towns and buildings portrayed   are worn out already?  Faded boards, patched roof. Shoot, the movie writers must have toured ole western towns and seeing them all worn out after 100 years just figered the people built hem that way.
The movie I found is  Silverado.
One of the first people I saw on it was Linda Hunt as the Saloon Keeper. I saw her first or remember her first  as Billy Kwan The Year of Living Dangerously (1982) and now of course she's on  in the TV Series NCIS: LA

Saturday, March 10, 2012

Guess it's Saturday!! March, 10, 2012. ( had to look, didn't have a clue)

Yep, one of those days! Woke up late not knowing what day it was. But I was thinking Sunday at first. I guess maybe cause it was already dawn ( 7AM) and much lighter than my normal gittin up time. Yea, I did first wake at 4AM and looked at the clock and rolled back over and burned my face in the pillow.
With the Time change tonite ( YES it if for real that tonite is the night you set your alarm and wake up in the middle of the night at 2AM and move your clocks FORWARD one hour.. OR just reset them this evening before you go to bed.. OR NOT!!  Stumble around in the morning and do it. :-)
The resetting of my clocks is not my problem here. It's resetting the internal clocks on the dammed cats!!

The local weather guessers here locally can't decide when it's going to rain. Fist they told us starting Thursday, through today , and when that didn't develop ( I only got 13/100)  they just kept moving the rain to the next rime period. So now, they got it pegged to rain all day everywhere around here!!
 49.7 °F
Overcast
Windchill:     50 °F
Humidity:     55%
Wind:     Calm
Wind Gust:     3.0 mph
Visibility:     10.0 miles
Dew Point:     34 °F
Precipitation:     100% chance of precipitation
Pressure:     30.31 in (Steady)
Sunrise was @6:45 AM

Today: Showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 9am. Steady temperature around 49. East wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.
I don't care when it rains as long as it does and then stops and clears off so the dammed house bound cats can get out and work off some nervous energy!
Dang Basset is bouncing off the walls, the couch the ole TV stand and generally going nutzo!!

OK, got BOT back from the mechanic. He finally found after some serious engine cleaning and close up eyeball inspection the fuel leak!!! It was the water drain value thing on the bottom of the big ole fuel filter under the hood.  Replaced that and it's good.
Then he was researching the hard starting issue. It turns over fine with plenty of speed to start it but just won't fire off like it used to  right at first.  Fuel pump pressure is up to standard, all the components are coming on as expected with no error codes showing on the diagnostic panel at his shop.   IT just cranks a long time and that's hard on the high dollar starter of course.  Well, he found a way to make it fire off right away while he continues to research  the final solution. Told me to follow this routine .
When I first get in. Bump the starter just a bit, wait and do it again, maybe once more. All this while the WAIT TO START light is still lite.  Then once it goes out, (20secs maybe)  It'll start right off on the next crank.

I remember when I first saw and drove this thing back about 10 years ago when brother had had his travel trailer parked here, that it would fire right off in the mornings.  So something is worn, or has changed and we/he just got figer out what it is.
This is one hell of a truck with more power than I'll ever need  and  is in good shape body wise, and all otherwise. Just got this dammed starting issue. But we'll/ he'll get it figured out.

I know , it's all my fault cause I didn't follow my steadfast rule. "Never go business with friends or FAMILY"  I won't again you can bet on it.
I'm seriously considering buying one of the OBD ( on Board diagnose) gauges and mounting it. Just plugs into the port that all cars have  since the 90's. and displays the information in a digital gauge.  ( wonder what it'd show hooked to my Toyota Hybrid? )

But ain't nuthing like that happening here anytime soon. Cause I need MO coffee!!

OH, one more thing.  On the news was the story of the flight attendant that went nutzo!!!  Video story here if you haven't seen it enough yet. Hey, I hate AA as much as the next guy but I never went that far to avoid them. I just refuse to use them. :-)

War'd the morning go?  Here it is 10AM plus some. I found some ole CD's in the "office" when I went in there a bit ago.  So what the heck I loaded them up.  Found a bunch of crap that I must have thought was worth saving back then.  Most of it was junk like this that I wrote one day had to be in 1999 some time.

What it is is a predictions I guessed at  then.
Ben's predictions for the new Millenium

First, the wired phone will become history, just like the rotary dial , and the hand crank phone.

TV as we know it, and I think that HDTV is just the beginning. Large wall size screens, if  not Hologram transmissions, will be the wave in the near future.

Speaking of Movies, with the advent of Imax, the local multi-screen theaters will disappear, soon, all of the movie theaters that are left, will be of the Imax or the newer, as yet unimagined version.

Transportation, the gas/propane powered car will disappear. Even today we have the option of a battery-powered car for less than $20,000. Maybe hydrogen powered electric. Who can tell? Henry Ford should be proud.

Medical, cancer vaccines in my life time! Alzheimer's a thing of the past with in 10 years. And as we learn to live longer  we will have to provide a place for the new multitudes, which brings us to

The Buck Rogers type engery pill will replace food production as a farm business. And cooking I will miss! Maybe not in the first 50 years, but soon, and of necessary.

Will we learn to control nature and make the Earth a biosphere? Using today's thinking, which will be out of date very soon, I can't see that happening. But, if it comes to the point where we no longer need to grow plants for survival, maybe so. Just one big bubble with climate control.

Computers, Wow! Wide open, I remember my first one, a Xerox 8080 with  no memory and no harddrive. The field of computing is moving so fast that anyone who even attempts to make a prediction is behind the technology tomorrow! Smaller, faster and faster! The speed of computers doubles every 8 months, and there is  no end in site. And the size gets smaller and smaller, day by day. I want one of the first copper based chip computers!

Speaking of computers, I see the US postal system becoming an unneeded way of information transportation. Even today Email and data transfers are fast taking over in business and personal everyday life.

Energy is one field that I feel we are even today behind . We re still using non-renewable natural resources to generate electricity. What happen to the ideas of nuclear energy in everyone's house? I think that will be the next big break through. You will be able to not only power your house, but when you move, if that is allowed, you take your power plant with you!

A new World order? With one government? Hillary would have you think so, but I hope not. Face it , people are different , even here in Texas. From the East Texas piney woods to the Depths of far west Texas desert mountains, one school system will not suffice! Different people, different needs. And so it is worldwide.

So , you see?  My mind does go off on some weird paths sometimes. :-)

OK, off to mail off a couple of small packages.

Cat Supper time!  4PM +  and I'm next!   Been raining all day , even got wet when I went out to dispose of the Robin that committed suicide by flying head long into one of the south reflective windows. :-(
Rain gauge showing I got 58/100 since last might  ( that means since this morning when it stated)
Cool  and dreary enough I'm thinking a couple of open face chilie dogs are in order to warm me up . :-)
