I actually had to think this morning. Went and drug the flat bed scanner in here to scan some pictures for darling Daughter. She wanted a couple of pictures of certain things . Got that done. ( Dang I hate having to think that early in the morning. :-) )

TWO If's today. If I don't get any rain, and IF it warms enough. Think I'll drag out the mower an knock down some grass/weeds. Just got a few places that are looking sort of ugly and want to get a jump on the dandy lions.
I never have like mowing wet grass cause it slows down the process and the thrown clippings just clump up and look ugly. Back when we maintained the farm it was impossible to mow the wet fields. Those ole 50in+ mowers just didn't have the power to sling the grass outta the way and it clumped up and looked bad . Plus it would grow mold before it dried out and if the cows ate it you could have some serious problems.
I remember one year we cut and wind rowed the big hay field to dry for a couple days before bailing. Got a storm through and had to goe out after and spread out all the rows so they could dry again, THEN bail it.
I honestly believe that growing up on the farm and being out in the fields all the time is what built up my resistance to the pollen or what ever causes hay fever. I rarely suffer with it here.
Gotta bitch about my supper last night. Well at least the pork chops. I had cooked a couple before on top of some dressing in the oven that turned out fine. But last night I used the stove top method , Put some wine and seasoned water in the skillet and put the chops on a rack to sort of steam in the broth. They turned out tougher than boot leather. Tasted fine but.....
I guess other than all the pre appointment forms to take by the new doctor today I ain't got nuthing planned.
I betcha something comes along huh? :-)
Oops!! forget the mowing bit. Started raining pretty good out..
Mo coffee.. BBL
10ish AM.. Fog is beginning to clear , got the trash out for pick up later. Sooo..
Still got some showers in the area and the birds are out feeding. Accourding to ole wives tales. If it's raining and the birds go to roost, it's gonna quit soon If however they continue to feed, rain gonna stick around a bit.
Why am I still sittin here? Git moving!!! PO, and think the big new store for some items and because it is semi the same direction as another place I want to stop. Yea, I know , my car gets 40+ MPG why am I worried about gas usage? Just habit I guess, I try to work my route in and back so I don't double back anywhere. Hold down the fort, I'll be back.
OH,, saw my first roadrunner moving through the yard a bit ago. Seems early for them to show up here,,
Early afternoon report. Yes I did get to the new big store and actually found everything I was looking for. AND found an alternative/better choice for KFC. This place has a good size kitchen in store and a bakery. Fresh breads, rolls , donuts etc. And they cook their chicken and other items in store so it's fresh. This stuff I got today tasted right out of the grease. My one complaint is the mustard potato salad don't have any onions in it.
Don't know what the weather is gonna do. Was raining when I left and even time I got to the store. When I came out full sunshine and warming up nice. But here an hour later. clounds again.. Good ole Texas weahter.
Yep, it is suppose to be a misserable day down this way, too. When I worked a contract job on the east coast for GE Neclear and my wife held down the fort here in Texas, I experimented in cooking lots of things a little different than usual. Some turned out great and some not at all.
ReplyDeleteHey!! experimenting is how all recipes get started. I don't think there are any rules that say you MUST cook this or that a certain way.
DeleteThink along that line. Just how desperate was the first guy who ate a raw oyster? :-)
I have always liked to cook. I used to bake bread at least once a week, but since I've been back in Houston that ended!
ReplyDeleteBeing the caregiver for Mom is taking up more and more of my time! I have to watch out for her on the sly, so she would think she is being cared for.
I'm with you on the experimenting with recipes. Found some good ones that way!
I hear ya on the bread Hermit. At one time we had a bread machine here and got real good and making up different flavors and addins.
DeleteAnd I always figured a recipe was just a suggestion on making something. I could always improve on them.:-)
I understand about your mother thing . Had the same thing with mine but she would call and want me to come by. Took forever once she moved an hour away to convince her I wasn't just down the street.
Trust me,,, I miss those phone calls back and forth.
Probably the best pork chops I ever cooked was using what the French calls sous-vide. (google it)
ReplyDeleteI've got an old crock-pot slow cooker that has an adjustable thermostat, like an electric skillet. I fill it with water and fiddle with the temp until I can hold the water at 145 F.
Season up the meats and seal 'em in zip-lock baggies, (get all the sir out) then drop 'em in the water and let em sit for however long you forget about them. The internal temp gets up to 145 F and stays there. (that's apparently the safe internal temp for pork)
Once ya remember ya got a pot full o' pork chops in baggies, heat up a big ol' skillet and sear the outsides of the meat for looks and a little flavor. All the cooking is already done, by soaking in the hot water, and all the seasoning/marinade has permeated the meat. Yummy grub!
If it makes ya feel any better, my cats not only decide when I've slept long enough but, they also decide when it's time for me to go to bed at night. They're like tiny little wimmin in cheap fur coats.
I like your idea Paul and bet it would work great IF I had a crock pot of slow cooker. Thanks for the tip.
DeleteAnd yea, our cats can be like little spoiled women huh? :-)
Thanks for coming by and the tip.
Ben, I've read about folks doing it with a well insulated cooler. Pour in hot water at the temp you want, put in your food, close the lid and just check the temp from time to time, adding hot water to bring it back up.
