Never Forget

Thursday, Feb 23,-12. More OS piddling today.

I had absolutly no luck trying to get replacement batteries for the remote weather station yesterday. So. Going to have to lower the pole , take out one of them and carry it with me for a guide.  Then raise the 40' pole back up and secure it again.
Really not as hard as I am making it out to be. Shoot I used to raise CB and Ham Radio antennas that were taller and much heavier than this thing is.

The most difficult part really is having a sawhorse there to lay the top across so it don't smash itself to bits falling on the ground. Once repaired just raise it back up and align it N & S and secure it to the larger pole  again.  The way I have it it doesn't need guy wires , so that is a good thing.

AND since I'm gonna be outside, I'll drag  the weed eater out and trim a few places that are looking ugly.

Speaking of yards and  grass control and critters. . Noticed a fire ant bed yesterday, first one this year. Buddy Bob had given me a tip last year about how to git them gone. TIDE, plain ole powered TIDE sprinkled on the bed . Works!!  I did it last spring and never saw another bed all year.

Course part of the reason may have been that we didn't get any rain and that just drove them deep underground. But I prefer to believe that that I killed them.

So, after Mo coffee and the sun gets up and it warms a bit, I got something to do in this nice pre-spring weather.

 62.4 °F
Clear
Humidity:     27%
Wind:     4.0 mph SSW
Wind Gust:     15.0 mph
Visibility:     10.0 miles
Dew Point:     28 °F
Pressure:     29.51 in (Steady)

NWS forecast: Sunny, with a high near 84. Windy, with a southwest wind 15 to 25 mph becoming north northwest. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

WEll, Whoopie!!!  Not even 10:30 yet and got the weather station  back up and running!!! Turned out to not be near as hard as I was thinking it would be. OH and those fancy ass China model number batteries?  Plain ole AAA alkaline
The only issue I ran into is that the plastic it's built out of got brittle. and the mount holding the small panel broke off.  ( tie wraps work to put it back) . And I lied about the height of that pole.. it ain't 40 feet, it's 20, just looks like more standing beside it.

Pole as it stands each day.  and down across the chair for service.

All those tiewraps are brittle and snapped right off.
The mount for that small solar collector snapped off.
That rain collector was terrible.  Spider webs, dirt, crap.  Works better now.

So it's back up and relinked with the base unit so it's reading again.

Just heard the drier beep at me, BUT before I empty it, gonna go weed eat a couple places out back I forgot yesterday.

5PM  TV news/supper version.   Got all showered off , shaved and clean clothes on a bit ago since I had finished my chores. Then took the car up for a free car wash!! yep, they give you a card and your 5th wash is free.  That saved money didn't last long cause On The Border is right down bout a block.! So I loaded up with all sorts of Tex-Mex stuff. Got it home and ate up all I could, and got left overs for breakfast or lunch tomorrow. :-)
Life is Gooooood!! :-)

    1. It worked for me last year, but last year was waay dry , so it may have been coincidence. but I'm trying it again this year.

  2. I hope that the drought put a dent in the fire ant population, but just in case I will get some Tide. Thanks for the tip.
