Now it's just called Presidents Day ( Washington's Birthday, also known as Presidents' Day, is a federal holiday held on the third Monday of February. The day honors presidents of the United States, including George Washington, the USA's first president.)
Don't have anything important marked on my list today. Got a phone call I'd like to make but it'll wait till his office opens tomorrow I guess.
I should get out and mow and may after awhile, or not! . No body holding a gun to my head about it. My place here out in the country we don't have any "home owners association" to bitch and moan about how we keep our area up. Hell if anyone tried that here, they liable to get shot and at the least laughed at. There's one place right over cross my side road ain't been mowed in almost 2 years (he was our resident Hermit) . That ole boy died and none of his family ever bothered to come clean out his house or even remove his ole Pickup so it's the area's "eyesore" I guess you'd call it. IF it bordered my property I think I'd seriously try and get it for taxes and shift my fence line. But then I'd have to do something with the trailer house sittin there, so , on second thought.. Naw...
Sure am liking not having to run the heater 24/7 this winter/spring like last year!! I'm going to have propane left over cause the tank still got 30% in it and I "may" have it topped off some day just to get all of what I prepaid for the winter. Then, since I don't use hardly any in summer time (cooking only) I'll be ahead come next winter.

I been reading Buddy Jim's blog and he's been putting in a lot of stuff about his ancestors here in Texas. They were here before it was Texas and he qualifies as a true
Son of Texas . As I understand it ( he'll correct me if I'm wrong. He has direct line to Andrew Ponton and another of his family was in the Alamo as well. He was telling me last evening that once he's gone there aren't any more of his Boatman line to carry on the line. Got females of the family but they all married off and changed their name.
Two of my ancestors got here to Texas real early but after it was a state. One came over just before the Civil War from South Carolina and another from back east as well. ( would have to drag out my big ole Wells book to find out which one)
The Woods line of my family were all down from Oklahoma from back east on the Yankee side of that conflict. I have seen the battlefield at Vicksburg were one of my mothers side was shooting at one of Daddy's side. :-)
Thanks it for now. Coffee cups empty. BBL
News thing locally about gas prices.
Texas retail gasoline price up by average 6 cents
HOUSTON -- Refining cutbacks due to slumping demand and global political and economic tensions are being blamed for climbing gasoline prices in Texas and nationally.
The weekly AAA Texas price survey released Thursday shows the average price of a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline climbed 6 cents over the past week in Texas to $3.45. The national average price is $3.52, 3 cents more than last week.
The state's most expensive unleaded regular gasoline this week is found in Dallas and Fort Worth and costs $3.49 per gallon, 8 cents more than last week in Dallas and 9 cents more in Fort Worth. The least expensive is found in Amarillo, where the average price fell a dime to $3.28 per gallon.
I went and filled up BOT yesterday with that gold infused Diesel and paid $3.89/ gallon for 20 gallon. Fortunately it just sits most of the time.

Why does diesel cost more than gasolinge? It takes less refining to make diesel. I believe the prices are fixed by big money people behind the scenes.
ReplyDeleteDuh!! You think Dizzy? Used to be Diesel and Kerosene was way cheaper.
DeleteBut my belief is that when the car manufacturers started making the new style diesel cars the oil companies jumped at the chance to raise price just to make more money.
Here's some info I found about it.
Historically, the average price of diesel fuel used in motor vehicles has been lower than the price of regular gasoline. However, this is not always the case. In some winters where the demand for distillate heating oil is high, the price of diesel fuel has risen above the gasoline price. Since September 2004, the price of diesel fuel has been generally higher than the price of regular gasoline all year round for several reasons:
* High worldwide demand for diesel fuel and other distillate fuel oils, especially in Europe, China and the U.S. and a tight global refining capacity available to meet demand.
* The transition to low-sulfur diesel fuel in the U.S., which is affecting diesel fuel production and distribution costs.
* The Federal excise tax on diesel fuel is 6 cents per gallon higher (at 24.4 cents/gallon) than the tax on gasoline."
BTW, coal oil/ kerosene can be used in place of diesel but that price went up as well, when the producers fingered out people were buying it in bulk and running cars and truck on it.
I have bought "off road" diesel for tractors, etc. It is a lot cheaper but they put red dye in it so it will not be used for highway vehicles. I guess sixbears has the right idea, using used vegitable oil as fuel for his truck.
DeleteI am tired of getting love letters from my HOA. If they were only fair about it and would send the older gentleman that lives next to me one as well I would not mind. He has not mowed his weeds since hurricane Ike.
ReplyDeleteNow that the date stamp in my camera is fixed I am going to take pictures and demand that they send him a love letter as well. His backyard which they can not see is a true jungle.
With Iran cutting off shipments to some European countries in protest of sanctions we can expect to see prices over the $4.00 mark.
ReplyDeleteThe news showed $4.00 plus already in the San Francisco area.
Well, aren't you glad you don't live there. Here's you a place to check for gas prices in Texas or expand it and check anywhere.

If you don't drive that Powerstroke often, you oughta add some fuel extender additive to those tanks. You can get diesel to last 12-18 months with this additive. I forget the name of the brand.
ReplyDeleteIMHO
Bigfoot
got an additive it in now. But I've been told that Diesel will last a helluva long longer in the tank that gasoline. Worst seems to be the water caused by condensation.
