First off ,after yesterdays venture into demographics I had thought about posting up another big ole bunch of stuff along the same vein. But just gonna leave it with this that I found.
This is a listing of recent generations for individuals born in the United States. Dates are approximate, as recognized by demographers. ( scientist who studies the growth and density of populations and their vital statistics.)
2000/2001-Present - New Silent Generation or Generation Z
1980-2000 - Millennials or Generation Y
1965-1979 - Generation X
1946-1964 - Baby Boom
1925-1945 - Silent Generation
1900-1924 - G.I. Generation
The Population Reference Bureau provides an alternate listing and chronology of generational names in the United States.
1983-2001 - New Boomers
1965-1982 - Generation X
1946-1964 - Baby Boomers
1929-1945 - Lucky Few
1909-1928 - Good Warriors
1890-1908 - Hard Timers
1871-1889 - New Worlders
Don't know how to label the Population of this country before that date. Indian Nation I guess. They were doing fine before we got here huh?
Man I really blew it last evening by not making that meeting of brothers. My fault, I just had it in my mind that it was set for this evening. I had made note of the location and time, just blew the day.. Oh well. That was yesterday and it's gone.
Saw my TV weather guy this morning first thing talking about rain!! Guess I missed last evenings report on that too.
Rain
Windchill: 47 °F
Humidity: 81%
Wind: Calm
Wind Gust: 2.0 mph
Visibility: 5.0 miles
Dew Point: 42 °F
Precipitation: 60% chance of precipitation
Pressure: 30.15 in (Rising)
Sunrise: 7:12am
Today: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 59. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
I think this is all tied to that front that moved in off the southern California coast and as far down as Mexico.
Don't look like much yet but it's gonna build up on us as the day goes on I betcha.
Gonna get mo coffee and do some head scratching .. BBL
Got some coffee down and eyes finally focusing so I can see colors . And I'm hearing sounds now. so guess I'm really awake. :-)
A final note about the demographics I been talking about and a personal observation.
The baby boomers dates showing to extend to those born in the early 60’s. … I make this personal observation. In my age group ( 1946 birth dates)we are so totally different from the ones of my brothers age group. ( born 52-54 +/-) My age group was generally either pro military and supported the government or the few beatnik type drop outs who protested the war.
However, my brother’s age group just a few years later had a totally different idea. It’s been my experience that those generally did not support their military nor the government. They are more of the “giveme giveme” group. Felt like the world (or family) owed them a living simply because they were born.
They were worst after they finished higher education (paid for by parents or grants) . They all thought that just because they had a degree someone was supposed to pay them, and they claimed to know more than the company owner or their supervisors.
They never understood that you get out of a job what you put into it and that if you argue with or refuse to follow the rules of the company they can and will fire you.
Now that they are nearing the retirement age they have nothing to fall back on. I guess they expect the government they rallied against to throw money at them simply because they managed to not kill themselves with drugs along the way.
Every one of them I have ever met who got into legal trouble with drugs or other illegal activities swore that someone was supposed to bail them out.
Not even going to get into their undisciplined kids.. Worst of the whole lot .
Feel free to express you option or thoughts . ( I can edit them or not post them :-) )
9ish AM Got breakfast and coffee all finished up. While I was making it I got to thinking that I ain't made a pot of chili all winter. So, since I got some good beef stew sized meat, think I'll make me up a small pot. Not going to do the whole big special recipe, just a shorten version. But need a couple of the spices on my recipes, so I can run down to my new local market and find what I need since they have a large Mesican section. AND get me some fresh tortillas to wrap it in. I KNOW!! make it up , heat up my re-fried beans and spread it all on a tortilla!! YEAA. but that'll be a late lunch or maybe supper , so you got time. :-)
Later that afternoon. 4PM+ about that chile I was gonna make? Furgirboutit!!! I guess lunch or something didn't sit right with me or maybe just nerves cause stomach is burny some . But I ain't gonna put any chile to aggravate it. So guess something like tuna fish and crackers instead. Sorry bout that if you were headed this way.
I did go out and start mower in anticipation on mowing tomorrow but then just saw a blip that it's forecast to rain pretty much all day , soooo. If it turns out they lying like most times, I'll do what I can.

I didn't know that I was the "silent generation", although being born into the great family that I was, I know I was one of the "lucky few"
ReplyDeleteNaw you for sure ain't of the Silent Generation! You got lots to say. :-)
ReplyDeleteLucky few? Wonder if that's the lucky ones that missed WWI and II and the depression ? As adults?
Interesting names for our generations...!
ReplyDeleteMost of the names I have for the present generation you wouldn't want me to put in this post! Certainly wouldn't be rated "PG".
Guess I'm just a grouchy old man!
Understand Hermit. I'm with ya. Grumpy old man.
DeleteBut I think we come by it naturally.
I was born in 1948, my hubby 1947 and we worked like you know what for everything..no one gave us anything, my mom died when I was young, my daddy went to pieces raised by older loving grandparents, my hubby's dad ran off with other women his whole marriage to his wife my hubby's mother about 9 full time kids he had to manage (hubby) they all whined like you know what, the only ones who worked were few and far between, several passed with drug etc. addictions, one of his brothers is nearly 57 he works every day and is developmentally disabled ssi payments, but he works and never complains, we spoil him and make sure he is living a wonderful life..His mother hung in there for almost 90 years no husband and many children in my opinion were totally worthless alcohol and drugs..It was my hubby who did everything, thought he should not marry, I changed his opinion of that almost 38 years of living as husband and wife, only one daughter, she has worked her entire life and we made her behave, never a drug around her and friends who got into that at all, sweet angel she is..It is the raising of children and making them behave and not giving them things instead of time and love and discipline ruins the youngsters of today, I was never allowed to question my nearly 90 year old grandmother, her word was law and to tell the truth I was the only grandchild she liked she was outspoken and sometimes so blunt it just made my siblings cringe but she spoke from great heartache and loss, her daughter my Mother very young and her only husband even younger leaving her all alone with two children with no means in Cuba, she got out of there and forged a life for herself and her children in the greatest country on this earth...I know what it is like to be loved and disciplined adn miss her each and everyday!!! Love your blog, I like your opinions agreeing with most of them, you are not harsh you speak from your own feelings and your truth! Have a wonderful weekend and take it easy..go nice and slow and have a wonderful few days resting, don't go overboard with the lawn mowing at all!
