Never Forget

January First, 2012. and it starts all over again!

I was just nodding off here at the table/office/desk/TV viewing platform last evening when it sounded like WWIII started!!  Yep, the rednecks lite off the fireworks.I saw out my carport camera someone down in the road must have set off a whole package of firecrackers , pop and flash for what seemed like forever.  Then a bit later the aerial displays started!!  From what I've read, I'm sure a Vietnam firefight would have been less noisy :-)

All  is quite this morning of course  but bet there are some serious hangovers around here. :-)

As for us , Tiny hide under something till later last evening, Basset don't care about it at all unless it gets near her food bowl :-)   And I just slept through it all.

Didja make an resolutions?   I quit even thinking about that years ago, Hell. you never keep them anyway  then you just feel bad cause you didn't have the will  power  , so why even consider it?

Got my new monthly calendar printed out laying here , marked up with anniversary dates . I tried a new form of calendar since my ole Calendar Creator is OLD and won't load on this computer and I got tired of fooling with it. So  gonna try the free one that's on with my email account through Google.    Only family event I got marked is Daddy's BD on the 19th, but  of course he died a few years ago so it's just a hold over reminder.

Gotta hold off with the comics till the store opens and I have a paper in front of me, BUT I got the Forecast of course.

46.0 °F
Clear
Windchill:     44 °F
Humidity:     53%
Wind:     5.0 mph from the NNW
Wind Gust:     12.0 mph
Visibility:     10.0 miles
Dew Point:     30 °F
Pressure:     30.36 in (Rising)

New Year's Day: Sunny, with a high near 59. North northwest wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

We don't normally get any ice, sleet, what ever , till late this month of even next. So no biggie yet.

OK, slow moving , so I'll leave you to your own devices till we all get some more coffee.
BBL

Well, OK then, found the comics without having to have the paper in front of me. :-)

Garfield
B.C.
For Better or Worst
Shoe
Peanuts
Hagar
Ziggy
Dagwood
Luann
Dennis
 Beetle Bailey
 Pluggers
 Pickles

OK,  confession time. FIRST screw up of the year, but it is fixable!!
Had a real nice guy pull up yesterday .  Salesman for  Direct TV. Showed me the plans and how to get just the channels I wanted. So he was GOOD and I signed up, NO CC number involved.
Well, after thinking about it later and this morning ( and getting in 5 different emails!!)  I'm calling and canceling the order and the install.  Here in Texas there is a 3 day grace period to allow for buyers remorse or some such BS. So I'll get out of this and keep on with my FREE off air channels and my Netflix.

8AM What happen to the Parade?    Pulled out the TV Schedule from the paper and went looking for the Rose Parade time on TV.. DUH!!!

SAN DIEGO, Dec 31, 2011 –  If you’re on auto-pilot New Year’s Day morning after having fun the night before like most of America, you will stumble over to your TV and turn it on expecting to see the dazzling floats and energetic marching bands of the 2012 Tournament of Roses Parade.
Instead, you’re going to think you forgot what day it was.
Check the calendar: no, you were right, it IS January 1. But it’s a Sunday, which means the traditional New Year’s Day schedule will wait until Monday.

The Tournament of Roses Parade never takes place on a Sunday.
The Rose Parade is never held on Sunday. Every five to 11 years when New Year’s Day falls on Sunday, the Rose Parade is held back one day until Monday, January 2. This last happened in 2006.

Want to review this last year  through the eyes of CBS news?  OK, This link will take you to  a lot of storis that made Headlines in 2011.

Long about 10AM and there is a commercial running on TV that just bugs me. I'm afraid of heights, I get dizzy . This commercial for a Credit card is short 33sec)   but watch it in a large window and see where that crazy woman is standing!!    NUTZO

Almost noontime  and I finaly got around to reading the paper. See I had to go out front and reattach a piece of the ABS skirting that was coming loose. Did that so no more stray or wild critters can get under the house...
ANYWAY, what I was going to point you to is a End of Year wrap up by Humorist Dave Barry.  Hey, you need a chuckle today,, just read it!!

And while you do that I'm gonna see bout making up my big ole meal I got the stuff for yesterday.................

4PM ish.    Cats are circling , bout that time.   BTW, that lunch with the chicken cordon bleu, loaded stuff potato and black eyed peas? Well, once I  loaded up my plate , it expanded!! So I got left overs for supper. But it sure is good eatin. but sure was hard to keep my eyes open afterwards. :-)

  1. Hope your coming year is filled with all your good desires. I enjoy your comics section a lot since I don't cater to the newspaper delivery now. Weather here ready to grab hold and probably hang tight with a cold fist. I don't relish the thought. Have a good one.

Myself: I'm always leery of those salesmen that stop at my door.

  3. Here in Washington state you get the 3 day buyer's remorse cancellation. Sometimes the sales people won't let you get out of the door sill, I never answer the door at all if we want something we will get it, we have tons of dvd's our daughter works in the film industry sends them to her via us at our home...regular broadcasting is getting to be a bunch of crap here, all the bowl games are on cable so we don't get them my husband thinks this is because cable is expensive here and they want your business, we can listen for free on any radio station..we can't get over everyone having a cell phone and no landline phones, in case of a fire they can't get into apartment buildings here with a cell phone only..so a landline is very important, just saying..It is new year's day where did 2011 go, it went in a NYC minutes as the saying goes, hoping you & your kitty cats enjoy a wonderful, peaceful & happy 2012, enjoy your blog....

  4. Happy New Year's to you and your darling little carpet sharks (I get a kick out of that name).

No hangover on this end nor new years resolutions.

I have been looking into getting Direct TV for my mom as the cable in this area has just gotten way too expensive. Would you care to share with your readers the downside to Direct TV? I certainly don't want to make any mistakes I can avoid.

  5. BTW was going to mention that HGTV was going to have RV 2012 at 2:00 p.m. and then they will repeat it again tonight but I did not know you did not have cable.

I guess you wont be able to watch the parade either because that too will be carried by HGTV.

  6. MsB, about Direct TV, The price offered on this specail was Ok, $44.99 then the next year call in and change your plan to less channels for $30, There are a LOT of channels I'd never watch Direct TV Link

Just not for me cause right now I got 16 off the air channels free . PLUS with my netflix subscription I got a bunch more I can watch.

  7. Thanks for the response and for the link. Since we do not have any free channels in Del Rio this might be a viable alternative.

  8. Ben, I got Dish and I like it. Have had it for quite a few years. You have a great 2012 and hope you get to do all you want to do and no more. Keep the cats happy and thanks for being a blogger friend. You are the one that got me started.

  9. Do you remember the year HicJic played in the Pasadena Jr. Rose Bowl? And the little black tailback who talked about his BJB? I really upset JB cause I couldn't get out of KP and come see her when I was stationed in Cal. Damn, living life in your memories can sometimes be a bitch!
