Last post for this year . December 31, 2010

And of course started off this last day of 2010 by waking early, don't know why, maybe my internal clock  part didn't want to risk missing any of today?  Hell,I don't know.

Dang it, since yesterday I been trying to remember all the fantastical things I did last year that deserved  revisiting.   But as you should know by now,my memory really is not worth the powder it would take to blow it to hell. So, as of 6 AM this day, this is what I remember as  good days from last year.
Let's see, I took a long drive ( for me) back to Alpine Texas and down to the Terlingua Desert area.  The plan being to meet the ole curmudgeon   Billy Bob!!!  And did, ( he ain't near as mean in person as he seems on his blog) On that trip I also got to visit with John Wells again at the Southwest Texas Alternative Energy And Sustainable Living Field Laboratory! or more simply The Field Lab
And more importantly got to spend some time with long time buddy,Jim Boatman and wife Carol at their place down there.  I've known Jim  ( and his brother) from back in the days when we met up in Alpine after I moved there from the Houston area. back in the '80s.

I did manage one other trip this year when I flew over to Albuquerque for Aunt Clara's ninetieth Birthday Party. She is an amazing woman and I can only hope that some day you get to sit with her and talk a bit.. What stories she can tell.

Let's see , around here?   Well, the abandoned house next door which has always been an issue, sold again, to a single lady. So at least there are lights on in there again.  My Mother continued to show improvement after moving to a new assisted living facility in a private house. Brother Jim and his wife bought them a house way the hell and gone out in the sticks  and moved. They finally got them something large enough for all his pack rat adventures. :-)

Not to forget my Daughter and family up in Hood River,,She bought and is running a business in downtown Hood River. Good Eats  While  her hubby continues his duties with Full Sail Brewery.  Grand Daughter is growing  like a weed and will soon be smarter than the lot of them. :-)

Off and on through the year I got to see and talk with my oldest Buddy Bob.  NOT to be confused with Bob and Judy, They of Minnesota who stopped by for a couple of nights on the way back to the frozen north.

As for me health wise,,My Doctor caught me and I got a full body poke and probe and am glad to report that I am in better physical health than this time two years so.  So , Good Lord Willing and the Creeks don't rise, Your stuck with  me still!! :-)

I have made a lot of new Internet/blogger friends this year and that maybe what keeps me attentive and alert as I can be.

I know it seems like   I ramble on but that is just the way my memory ( or lack  of it) works these days..

I'm sure that as soon as I hit PUBLISH  I'll think of something else. So' here's the morning weather for this last day of 2010 for my area of Texas.

59.7 °F

Humidity: 64%
Wind: 5.0 mph from the WNW
Wind Gust: 12.0 mph
Visibility: 10.0 miles
Dew Point: 48 °F

Updated: 6:30 AM CST on December 31, 2010
Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 60. West northwest wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

OH, Of  course Hermit Jim got a dang cute  post this morning, in celebration of this last day of the year.

8:15 So far I got an Avery labels  form downloaded and printed out the stickers for the new calendar. I'll sit here later and stick them on the new calendar in a bit,,Right now I need MORE Coffee.

OH BTW, you missed New  Years fireworks in Sidney Australia

OK then,, here is is 10 AM I made a decision.  I'm gonna run up to town and get me a new set of table flat ware, ( silver ware)  . Don't know how old these china made things I  got now are but I'm betting   well over 10 years. The problems are twofold ,, some of the simulated wood handles have broken/chipped and the spoons I use for my coffee the plating is coming off. . So, time to replace them. There is an over stock  place not too far, so I'm headed out. I got a set or two of OLD honest silverware over in the storage area, but I ain't using them, too hard to keep clean.. Besides I prefer a larger handle part.

So, talk amongst yourself and I'll be back you betcha!!

Later , early afternoon , like 1:30. well that trip was a bust!!  Both places I tried didn't have what I really wanted silverware wise. So I'll keep on the hunt,, Think Target will be my next attempt.   Not to bad outside, mid 60's, with some wind from the north. Nice weather to end the year with I reckon.   Oh , I wrote my last check for the year.. paid off my MC,so I can start spending more money!!!! :-)

I've tried to visit all the normal bloggers I read and wishing them a Happy New Year.

OH!!! The new guy that moved in the house on the corner coming in to here, has an RV.  "think" it's a Fleetwood, not a huge block-long one,but more of a single person size.  but I'll stop and get a picture and maybe meet the guy as soon as I see him out about.

I have seen the guy only once and he appears to be closer to my age than a kid and the RV does have handicapped plates on it.   Maybe a good new neighbor huh?

Cat feeding late afternoon update  I did stop at Wal Mart and get what looked like an acceptable set of silverware.. Got it home and finally peeled all the dammed plastic off it.. BS,,got it packaged back up to return!! That crap is stamped out of metal thinner than a license plate.  So  went over to my big Target and found their offerings.   Only ended up with a 4 piece set but this stuff has some metal in it!!  Ran it through the dishwasher to take the manufacturing crap off it, and going to use it awhile to make sure I really really like it  before I toss out all the old stuff.  If it's as good in use as it feels, I can always just go back and buy another 4 piece set if I discover I need more.
Cats are circling , must be that  time huh?    :-)

My God!!! Don't take away my Texas Passport. I just forgot for awhile.

Of course if your from Texas or mostly anwhere in the south  you know you gotta have your black eyed peas tomorrow.  What reminded me was this article in my Co-op power magazine  Want cornbread with those?

OK, here's you a simple recipe if you can't read the one on the bag
Southern Black Eyed Peas
Ingredients:
l -1 pound dried black-eyed peas
l- 1 ½ pound how jowl, ham hocks or smoked turkey leg
l- 2 qts water
l 1 large onion, coarsely chopped
l ½ tsp crushed red pepper
l ½ tsp sugar  NO!!!!
l- 1 tsp Best Friend’s Seasoning
Directions:
Pick over the peas and rinse well; cover with cold water and soak overnight
Place meat in large pot with water; bring to a boil and cook for 30 minutes
Drain peas and add to pot with meat.
Add onion, crushed red pepper, sugar and Best Friend’s Seasoning.
Add more water, if necessary, to cover peas.
Cover and simmer about 2 hours or until peas are tender, checking occasionally to see if they need more water.
Serve piping hot with cornbread and butter.

Don't get much  better folks!!

December 30th, 2010,, This year is just dang near gone huh?

Wonder why it is  at this time of year we get to thinking," Where'd last year go?  And what'd I do  all year?"
I know that there days that we each thought, "I gotta remember this day" And BS, we never do unless it's something Major or life changing.  ( guess I could go back and read all my blog post couldn't I? )
I'm gonna think on it and make me some pencil notes and see if I can come up with just one day of this year that needs remembering.. And you do the same and post what it is here , OK?

Otherwise.. Weather today.

8:05 AM  Well  that bright idea I had of going back and reading ole blog postings?  BS, that would take the whole day!!  It took my bout an hour just to read January's!!   Maybe I need to attempt to do what ole Billy Bob is trying to do, print them all out and read the printed copies.
Finally opened up the blinds and its foggy/hazy out   ,not cold 60F, but real wet.   You can bet the ole wimpy cats ain't going out in it.
To all your bloggers, isn't it amazing how addicting this becomes?    I dare ya, double dog dare you, just skip a day!!

OK, time to open the cat door and see if they will go out and find me some breakfast,,  ummm, tamale, chile and egg maybe?    That does sound good don't it! :-)

BTW, have you seen this commercial from AT&T ?  Clickey   What a crock!!!  If that is supposed to show a  typical family that uses the service, well, it's just as phony as the service!!
I have been a big critic of commercials forever. I  just like watching them and picking them apart.  I guess maybe  that goes  back to my days in Radio, writing and producing commercials?

9AM, had just finished up breakfast when neighbor called. The tree trimming guys are down there to take out a tree, So,I may run down and get some pictures. ( plus I know the tree trimming guy)

I figured something was happening outside, cause the cats were watching intently!!!

So back in a bit, I need something to break up my boring routine anyway.

11AM more or less... Been down the street watching the guys take out a couple of trees, they not finished but I got chilled so came back in.
Ok, here's the short video of the final cut to bring down tree #1 Timber
I may run back down when he starts the stump grinding. :-) Or not :-)

BTW, I had posted that thingie asking you to pick what browser you are using. Well,I found my tracking program and here is what it says. I truly am surprised , cause to me IE is the slowest worst internet viewer ever. Memory hog and just flat ass slow.  But...

Got my Mail today of course and got these wonderful new Map of next year 2011!!  That came from Blog follower  Dennis at herringgas.com
I tried like heck to find a family name connection to no avail. But I got me a nice new never been marked on Calendar now for sure.!! :-)

OK, 4PM , or close to it anyway.   If you know me at all, or have read some of the stuff I rant about, they you know I got this thing about Fat people. To that end I just watched a documentary movie called SUPER SIZE ME   That guy dang near killed himself eating nuthing but McD's for a month,     Take a watch, and don't stop at McD's on the way home for supper.   Now you got to admit that no one holds a gun to the people's head and forces them to eat that crap, but...

I just noticed something real weird up there.. See the picture of Tiny in the chair? This one! Her eyes are glowing, BUT if you zoom it larger, and look in the window, there is a reflection of her eyes!! How the hell can that be?  Her eyes are facing away from the window. Weird I tell ya,, Just weird.

BTW, anyone know a way to sharpen one of these?Or just replace it?

Well Fiddle Faddle,  ( wasn't that a snack thing at one time?)   Guess I''ll give it up Watching the tree trimming this morning wore me out.. :-)

Wednesday, Dec 29th, 2010,,

Didn't wake up with any earth shattering ideas to post this morning, or nothing has come to me that is fit to print.

58.1 °F
Overcast
Humidity:     85%
Wind:     6.0 mph from the South
Wind Gust:     16.0 mph
Visibility:     10.0 miles
Dew Point:     54 °F
Precipitation:     50% chance of precipitation
Pressure:     29.84 in (Falling)

Today: A 50 percent chance of showers before noon. Areas of fog before noon. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 67. South wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Got a question for ya, that maybe you can answer. IF I wanted to save some   of these post  complete just as they show, for another project, how would I go about that?  I know I can "edit" and copy the text, but how about the entire post?

Need coffee... BBL

I thought of something else I would like an answer to. Say I am out in public and encounter a Solider in uniform. What is the proper way to address them?  I don't know rank on the uniform, so what do I say to show respect?   That has always bugged me.

8:30ish and finally moved, got out the stuff to make up some breakfast  here in a bit, AFTER I gag my pills down!   I got to wondering what I had posted this day last year. and finally found it.    If Your really bored, you can go look at mine or better yet, go look at your last years post.. MINE is here.

Finally figered out that my cats don't really wake up till about now,oh they get up and eat when I do, but then they go back to finish  sleeping.  Lazy Bastards. :-)
OK, gonna do up a simple potato pancake, sausage and egg breakfast and then see what's next!!

While I was fixing my breakfast I decided to see why my Elfa slide our storage bins were so hard to move. Back in the back I found these two plates..   Those things are huge , as you can see and HEAVY. For the life of me I don't remember buying them. ( Wonder who here locally I can pawn them off on :-)

Well, I managed to screw off till almost noon now!! :-)
Got the trash sat out for pickup and while doing so, noticed that the little juvenile delinquent in training next door is out in his back yard playing with a bow and arrows. So far he is hitting his target ( a building with about a 5 ft width  ) about 1 in 5.   Maybe he'll lose all his arrows in the tall grass behind it soon and  give it up.

Think I'll head up and get the mail and then into the store , that way I can be back just about in time for some lunch. :-)

Hold down the fort and don't answer any calls with blocked numbers !!

OK, I'm Back and I  got a HAPPY MOUTH!!  They opened a new Subway  sandwitch shop right in the parking lot of my normal store!!  So now I can really do the one stop shopping. AND they had the jalapeno steak sandwich, which I put on one of there foot log Jalapeno  breads of course. Toasted..  My dammed tongue like to have beat my face to death trying to get too it!!!  Ummmmm,, that's some good eatin!!

As an added delight, my good friend Bob, retired Navy Commander and F-14 pilot sent me two links I think you'll enjoy.

Now, What you need to do before you click on these is make your viewer full screen ( or if like me, you can put it to your Big Screen TV) , turn off all other noise and just sit back and enjoy the ride!!
First up,,The Blue Angles

And next a Corvette races a Jet.  Yea, right!!!

Other wise, neighbor called and tree trimmer/removal guy is supposed to come take out a tree for him, So I got some work to go watch later..

December 28th, Tuesday, Closer to 2011

The local forecast sounds sort of like a spring one for here,

43.5 °F ( 43°F here)
Overcast
Windchill:     44 °F
Humidity:     71%
Wind:     3.0 mph from the SE
Wind Gust:     6.0 mph
Visibility:     5.0 miles
Dew Point:     35 °F
Precipitation:     50% chance of precipitation
Pressure:     30.20 in (Steady)

Today: A slight chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Patchy fog. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 46. South southeast wind between 5 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Thunderstorms?   in Winter time?  Yea,guess so. I do remember ONE time witnessing a Snow thunder storm up in Utah. Back in my crazy days when I voluntarily strapped 2X4s to my feet and attempted to slide down HUGE mountains in snow deeper than I am tall!!  AND I paid money to expose my body to that ?    Wonder what my mind was thinking?
Speaking of that frozen crap that walls from the winter skies.  Here's a link that you can watch snow accumulate from the warm safety of your house.   Snow fall  videos

Hermit Jim is staying nice and warm and, like me,surfing the internet Take a read this morning.  GOT a $20 bill?

Shoot,, now what?   only 6:35AM and I'm bored already............
More coffee!!!

BTW,  look over there on the RIGHT side? see that little poll of what browser you use?  Take a second and choose one please..

And now for something totally different,,  Take a look at live (?) cruise ships cameras from around the world.   Cruising

Well, 10AM and both the cats "thought" they wanted out, HOWEVER, it started raining on them and of course that created a cat stampede  back in the house.  Wish you could see it , Either Tiny just runs slap ass over Basset or they collide trying to make the sliding turn  at the fridge !!!
Dang nabit!! You should know now that I am a subway sandwich lover. They are runing a commercial now for a new sandwitch I would like to try but can not find it on their website. ( maybe I'll have to take a drive up there tomorrow) OH!!! I did find one closer to me . It's just over by the hospital/medical complex. That was I don't have to go all the way into town and fight the traffic.

I was going to post up some pictures of my brothers when we were younger and tell ya some stories. Like the one when Jim got mad at me for some reason and got a chair and drug it up in front of me, got up on  it and made a fist to hit me.. I just stepped back and he got down, moved the  chair closer.. Repeat several times. Then he really got mad and told me to STAND STILL!!!  That happen in the kitchen with a full family audience.
Growing up on the farm we often times had to find something to do. One thing of course was to find nice dried out cow patty's and play what we called FREEZE!!   Who ever was IT and the thrower, would stand basically in one place while the rest of us ran around out in front of him. When he yelled FREEZE we stopped and he would then throw the patty like a Frisbee and if you got hit, you were IT and you went to the throwing box. That game got canceled when we started using coffee can lids and flattened big cans from the burning pile.

One of the boys made/bought/ was given a bow and arrow set.  So we'd all stand around in a loose area circle  and he'd shoot it as high straight up as he could. And if you moved,,you were the chicken.
Of course bicycles were a big part of our play time. At the time , the farm we lived on was waaay out in the country and we'd all saddle up our bikes  and get out on the dirt road and pedal our way to the top of the small hill out in front of the house. Then we'd tear down that hill as fast as we could, yelling the whole way. Steve Canyon TV show was popular at the time and we were all pilots flying our jets!!  Our good ole farm dog, Sissy, would follow us as long as she could. When she got tired, she'd cross under the fence to our field and start towards the house. Stopping on occasion to see if we were coming with her.
Remember this was the late 50's and no one had an air conditioned house . In the back yard was a big willow tree and mother would put out a big wooden keg with spigot on it filled with kool-aid and we each had our own colored aluminum  drinking glass. The ice block never lasted long in it. But I bet we drank 5 gallons  of kool aid a day. ( my favorite was the root beer with extra sugar )

If it was a real hot day Mother "may" let us in to watch some TV show around the noon area under the fans. But other wise we were outside, BY CHOICE all day long!!

Try and get a kid of today to go outside and make up a game!!

Monday, December 27, 2010

Monday, Dec 27, Last one of this year..

And that reminds me, I need a new wall  calendar!!  Remember back in the good ole days , every company you did business with sent you a calendar.  Hard times put a stop to that for sure.  S'ok, I print me out a monthly one all marked with important days every month to keep here beside me anyway.
Speaking of calendars, I see that I go to the doc today to get these stitches outta my arm. I considered taking them out yesterday, just snip snip and pull the string out ,,right?  oh well, already paid her so let her do it.

Let's see who else can I pick on ?   :-)

Dog goneit, I just checked the local school's websites.. Those little juvenile delinquents are out of school this week also!!!    BS!  Keep em in school all year, the crime rate would go way down!!

Even took time to stop and pick up a couple of store items I wanted and LUNCH., which I'll get to later.
Got to call my  car insurance folks, the letter I got from them "looks" like I got such a dividend this time that I don't owe them, BUT I dang sure want to confirm it.  And got one other little bill to pay, My AT&T bill so I won't lose my internet and not be able to continue to amaze and amuse you with this daily babble. :-)  So, talk amongst your self's and I 'll be back.

Dag nabit!!   almost 4 PM Got to looking online again for a security camera system I could use to replace the one here that don't work no more.  MAN, there are so many choices  and it looks like I am going to have to go "touch and feel"  some of them.  What I want to do  is replace the ole B&W wired system with a color set that I can monitor here inside,AND I would like to be able to allow YOU to view it as well,( with my control of course)   I am open to suggestions by all means!!

ummm, Tiny cat is wandering around making sounds like it's supper time.. To heck with that!! Too early and I don't evenknow what I am going to have for supper yet.

OK, I checked with Aunt Clara  and here is one of her poems that I really like . Maybe cause I can relate to it?
LITTLE THINGS
  With the big things
  There were always toasts,
But it is the little things
  That I miss the most.
  The touch of a hand
  When things went wrong;
  The meeting of eyes
  At a certain song.
  The quiet listening
  When I had to vent;
And a smile and a hug
  When it was spent.
  A little wink
  When we heard
  And knew the why
  Of a certain word.
  The big things still
  Make my heart sing.
  But how I miss
  The little things.
IMHO she could well become the Grandma Moses of Poetry .

First off, thanks for the kind words about Aunt Clara's poetry.  She reads the blog so hopefully she well let me know about passing them on ,or maybe forward them to me for posting.

I had planned earlier today to go up to LJS for a load of seafood, but remembered I had some left over BBQ, and I NEVER buy a to go meal until the other one is completely gone.

Did remember to trim beard and shave and shower  in preparation of the doc visit in the morning for stitches removal.   ( I started to take them out myself )

Shoot, since I got a full tummy,I "may" just give it up for the night..

Now as for breakfast this morning,   On the farm after we were all  us boys were all grown and off working, Brother Jerry, he  who is a PhD Wildlife Biologist with his own guided hunt company  would  always bring in a big bag of fresh harvested wild quail . Several of us would gather in the kitchen and pant and drool while Daddy fried up those wonderful succulent birds. and Mother made fresh biscuits. And  I always got to make the gravy . Then for a time it would get real quite while we all stuffed ourselves!!

So maybe this morning I an at least have the biscuits and gravy.  ( Brother Jerry had called yesterday and said he was on his way to his grown married daughters house in the Austin area with a big load of quail  for the holiday)

Well, much later that same day, almost 4 pm as a matter of fact.    Wind liked to have blown me over when I went out for my winning lotto tickets and a BBQ plate for later, ( didn't feel like cooking)

Neighbor came over with  TWO of those apple phone game playing things that needed internet to configer.  Beat me what the hell it requires but we fooled with it for some time and it appears that we got one to update and work, the other ,not so good. He said he'd take it to the store and get it going. Sometimes I feel like such dunce with the new thingies.

Shoot since I'm back in and warm and the cats ain't bothering me, think I'll just prop my feet up and read a while. I got a brand new Archeology sitting here staring me in face.

Well, much later now, 9PM, bout that time for ole farts!   Finished up my big ole plate of slow smoked Turkey breast and beef brisket hours ago and don't think I drifted off.... :-)

The skies cleared after sun down and the temp started down real quick, already down to 31 F now, that 'lectric blanket will be set to broil before I crawl under it tonight you can bet. :-)  So, guess I better make up the coffee pot for morning and consider giving it up, ( kitchen is already cleaned up and even did some cleaning of the oven)

See y'all..
nitey nite

But stop and take a break so you don't over do it .

There's a cute  digital  thingy that brings  the  Birth of Christ into modern day technology.  Hermit Jim posted it right cheer

And I "think" my computer fix up guy is coming by today, I didn't write down what he said but purty sure he said today.   ( little interesting thing about this laptop, ever since I did a complete restore back to original several things are different, one is my Blue Tooth is working, Another thing is,, It can't see my network here in the house any more  and my fancy ass wireless printer ain't working.

Basically  I ain't happy with the way this thing is running and the guy I got coming is an old fart also  so he understands.  And of course  just after I bought this one, they come out with the  20+ inch screens!!

Need more coffee,, BBL

And if you get bored, here's a link to funny or odd commercials from around the World.  Clicky

A bit later now, and I just finished up breakfast.   I remember some ole buddy or maybe an uncle , anywho, someone who absolutely refused to eat spam in any way, shape or form..  If I remmber it was because he ate so much in the service.
When I got my stored container out this morning, I wondered it if was still good since it been opened and stored in the fridge in a official Spam storage Tupperware container.   Who knows what the shelf life is of this stuff?

Well, Well.  I was working on a snack/ luch when the phone rang, again!! IT was my computer fixin guy again. Said that one of his jobs had canceled for today so he'd be out about 1!!!  Whoopie!!!
Think I got time to get this updated

First off a couple of Christmas related videos for your please, I hope.
First is Doggie related. As always, full screen works best.

And a Light show!!!  Blink Blink Blink

And finally for now., a politically correct  12 Days of Christmas.

On the 12th day of the Eurocentrically imposed midwinter festival, my Significant Other in a consenting adult, monogamous relationship gave to me:

TWELVE males reclaiming their inner warrior through ritual drumming,

ELEVEN pipers piping (plus the 18-member pit orchestra made up of
members in good standing of the Musicians Equity Union as called for
in their union contract even though they will not be asked to play a note),

TEN melanin deprived testosterone-poisoned scions of the patriarchal
ruling class system leaping,

NINE persons engaged in rhythmic self-expression,

EIGHT economically disadvantaged female persons stealing milk-products
from enslaved Bovine-Americans,

SEVEN endangered swans swimming on federally protected wetlands,

SIX enslaved Fowl-Americans producing stolen non-human animal products,

FIVE golden symbols of culturally sanctioned enforced domestic incarceration,

(NOTE: after members of the Animal Liberation Front threatened to
throw red paint at my computer, the calling birds, French hens and
partridge have been reintroduced to their native habitat. To avoid further
Animal-American enslavement, the remaining gift package has been revised.)

FOUR hours of recorded whale songs

THREE deconstructionist poets

TWO Sierra Club calendars printed on recycled processed tree carcasses and...

ONE Spotted Owl activist chained to an old-growth pear tree.

Merry Christmas Happy Chanukah. Good Kwanzaa. Blessed Yule. Happy
Holidays! (unless otherwise prohibited by law)*

*Unless, of course, you are suffering from Seasonally Affected Disorder
(SAD). If this be the case, please substitute this gratuitous call for
celebration with suggestion that you have a thoroughly adequate day.

Well, here it is almost 6PM  and my computer fix it guy just left, F I N A L L Y.. the guy is good, older dude, but good God!! He talks insistently and won't listen when you talk to him..  Got my normal email progam back up and running, ( loaded the newer version on) and tested it. And got my wireless printer set back up and got all my local network working.  WHEW,, he wore my ass out!! ( I am debating about putting a short vid of him up)

Think I better find me something to eat,, stomach is growing, so just gonna kick back a minutiae and relax THEN eat.

OH!! Forgot to tell ya, got 3/4 in of rain!!!  First rain this whole month!!

Good Grief!!!! How could I have gotten the SANTA TRACKER???     so got take a look and select your language and Call your grand kids to take a look!!!

I'm UP!!! Quit worrying. :-) Thursday, December 23th, 2010.. ( right? ) ?

After my fiasco of getting the wrong  day earlier this week, I figered I better just put a ? in the title in case I get it wrong.  That way I won't seem like such a bozo . :-)
Didn't hit the lotto last night so it's ok to go about my normal day I guess.

One thing I did this morning is not put on my jeans but rather a pair of ole loose baggie flannel warm up pants. Figered that since I ain't 'specting no company and not going out, why not be comfortable AND warm huh?

Weather not looking to bad, considering the time of year I guess.
43.2 °F ( yep, same here)
Overcast
Windchill:     40 °F
Humidity:     49%
Wind:     5.0 mph from the NNE
Wind Gust:     6.0 mph
Visibility:     10.0 miles
Dew Point:     25 °F
Precipitation:     10% chance of precipitation
Pressure:     30.31 in (Rising)

Today: Cloudy, with a high near 50. East wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

NOW, being ole fart and having seen bout a half century of weather, I know that if we don't get any rain or snow or other falling wet stuff this winter , the wildflowers( bluebonnet in particular)  won't have a great spring season.  I also know that every year here just in time for the Stock Show and Rodeo  ( Jan 15th), we'll have an ice storm. ( I remember one than once as a HS kid, marching with the band in that parade freezing my butt off the whole time) .

On to other things, Like frivolous lawsuits, Hermit Jim found a good one.
Have you ever sued anyone?  Naw me either, just the SS, but hell, every one does that. I have contacted lawyers about possibly suing a company and was told that it wasn't worth it, course then we didn't have all the TV dudes popping up every 30 minutes. ( the one time I really tied  to find a lawyer to sue a driver that wiped me out, I got all tangled up in a circle of good ole Mason brothers , that all stuck together and won't do diddly  about suing another Mason brother.)

( why'd I mention that?  it just brought up ole bitter memories and ticked me off!!! )

Maybe more coffee will help?  BBL I'm sure when something else gets my goat.

In the mean time  you can go read up about  buddy JIM down in Austin  and his experiments with fireworks!  ( ok, confession time, when I started reading that I thought it was real!! Cause I KNOW Jim and his love of things that  go BANG! )

HEY!! I just realized something!!  Since my 'puter crashed last week and I had to reload, I ain't gitting no spam mail!!   guess it wiped out all those cookies I had stored huh ?

Bit later now and starting to start putting my breakfast together...  BUT first we got an update from Worldly traveler. Shadowmoss.   . Typical Woman!!!  In a Foreign country, traveling and seeing things that you and I can only read about and she's going looking for a mall?

Speaking of Breakfast. Growing up on the farm in the '50s  we ate what Daddy and Mother put in front of us.  Daddy's favorite or at least daily normal was a soft boiled egg on wheat toast.   I won't eat one to this day. In fact for many years of my adult life I just flat  ass didn't eat breakfast on a normal day. However when I had to start taking meds each morning, including an aspirin, to keep from getting a stomach ache from the aspirin, I eat.  Now it has become standard. This morning for example I made up something other than typical fare.  I had some left over wild and white rice with sliced beef sausages. So I got that reheating in the skillet and stirred together an egg, chopped onion, shredded cheese  ( forgot the mushrooms)  and dumped that in with the eggs. Now that is good eating.  One special on occasion breakfast on the farm was rice!!! With butter and sugar..  I hated cream of wheat but would eat the rice every day! ( What? if any, nutritional value does rice have? )
Think I told ya ,, one cold winter Sunday here I arranged for a buddy and his live in  GF to come over for breakfast.  I had a fire in the fire place and cooked everything in it.. Small steaks, cottage fries, the eggs, biscuits , the whole bit!! IT really got him, cause he was a member of a reenactment group that focused on the 1800's  and was used to spending weekends living that style. But he never cooked like that.

Another remarkably breakfast was many years ago after a night of moving party and feed  in the NASA area.  We all met at one of the folks places and he used all the left over stuff for breakfast!  Ever had Caviar on toast with a shrimp/crab omelet?  And mimosas ?  :-)

There was this one time in the Corpus Christi Area with EX, she took me to a local Mexican place and we had what they called Migas..   OMG!!!  To this day I have never had anything with the same name that even comes close!! ( note to self,,see if my local Mercado has fresh made chorizo)

OK, coming up on NOON already!  and I  been fooling with my Jib Jab account again.  So, let's try this  Rocking Christmas!!   LOL LOL, that uses all my brothers and I just so happen to get the drummer one in the right place.

OK,  save these links and Christmas Morning while you are doing what ever it is you do. You can fire this up and just let it fill the house.

9:30 ish  I mentioned Buddy Jim up top earlier. Low and behold he sent me  a picture of the finish stone etched headstones for out back . Really, if you want a stone marker for something, there isn't much the boy can't do.   He told me on the phone that he can add in a picture but you'll have to get the particulars from him.
Here's his web-page  Right here

Think I'll give it up..how bout you?

 See ya!!

Good Grief!!! What happen to Tuesday? 12/22/2010

I was shocked/surprised to realize that today is Wednesday. I though that yesterday was Monday for some reason. S'Ok, ain't got to place I gotta be at any certain time, so it's all good.

The weather don't care what day it is anywho.

43.7 °F
Clear
Windchill:     40 °F
Humidity:     84%
Wind:     7.0 mph from the North
Visibility:     7.0 miles
Dew Point:     39 °F
Precipitation:     5% chance of precipitation
Pressure:     30.18 in (Rising)

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 60. Northeast wind between 10 and 15 mph.

I got an email this morning that surprised me but made me smile. See I used to have a Chrysler Sebring convertible and belonged to this online Club http://www.sebringclub.net/  It was a fun/ fancy car and I liked it,, BUT, Ann had bought it for me after our California trip when we had one as a rental  and after she passed, I just didn't have use for two cars. So sold it.  Any who, one spring all the local members had come by here for a meet and greet and to take a back road drive. I had , I think , 20 of them in my driveway   :-)    Met some really nice people

Any way, one of the members dropped me an email that he had moved back to the area and will probably come by once it warms up some.
Found a picture of mine. :-)  Picture doesn't show it, but it was a deep metallic smokey gray with leather interior

Hermit Jim this morning has some Christmas related musical history for you this morning.

AND if you get bored,   this link I  "re-discovered" gives you info on how all sorts of stuff works.  Clicky

Now that I can finally see colors and hear sounds , MORE coffee and see what's next. BRB

OK, now for something totally different...   Warning!!!! All you ole farts make sure you are sitting down before you try this. ( read the short instructions )    Hypnotic!!

I did remember to set may trash out this morning and it is a dang site cooler than it was this time  yesterday.
So, here in bit I'll decide whether to go do  my  running, or wait till after I eat lunch and maybe it'll warm up some. Decisions decisions. :-)

Later that Afternoon....................    So anyhow, finished up my lunch and was cruising the wide wide world of useless information when I remembered Leno's Garage!!   He did a review of this three wheeled  car, Persu Mobility Three-Wheeler.  Dang That looks like a hoot!!  ( wonder how it'd be on a long drive? )
Side note, the car site wanted me to intall some Apple plug in which I did, but now dammit it still saying I don't have it..  See the kind of crap I have to put up with?
Almost forgot, on  the way to the store I heard a song that I always liked.  Not particually crazy about the group but sure like the song.. Southern Islands

BTW, noticed and odd thing while I was cleaning my glasses, Notice the reflection in the lenses.   That is of the over head light. They are the screw in new type energy saver florescence.  They reflect green in real life.   Just thought it was interesting ( surprised it is anywhere close to focus cause of course I didn't have them on)

Well, again, I got suckered into another one  of those love stories movies  that doesn't have a good ending.

AND about ole Billy Bob?  Ain't heard a word from him and he ain't updated his blog lately. Maybe the local guy is working on  Sally Da House and he's just too busy supervising?  Guess If he don't check in at a reasonable  time to morrow maybe  I'll just have to call him.

Otherwise,, since Cats are accounted for, kitchen is clean , and coffee pot made up..
I'm outta here!!!

Tuesday 12/21/2010 Now what?

So? What you got planned for today?  Yea, Me neither.    First thing I saw on the news was the latest from Jim Jab Here! Of course you can make it full screen.

Woke this morning to NO Heater running.. That is a good thing. So far it looks like this winter is shaping up to be warm and dry.  IF we don't get any rain this winter, the bluebonnets and other spring flowers will suffer.

Weather today.
Officially 57.0 °F (yep)
Clear
Humidity:     83%
Wind:     6.0 mph from the SSW
Visibility:     10.0 miles
Dew Point:     52 °F
Precipitation:     5% chance of precipitation
Pressure:     29.82 in (Rising)

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. West wind between 5 and 15 mph.

Nuthing pops up important that I have yet this morning, but I'm sure something will come along. Right now it's coffee!!

So, who's the knife guru?  I got these two that I guess I've had a long time.  The blades slide into the handle when you life up the white part and fold it over.  Anyone know anything about this type ?  Metal seems to be simple steel, but they sharpen up real good for opening cartons  and the like.

OK, Washer needs emptying and guess I better eat something cause it's 8:30 already.

I forgot to tell ya,Yesterday as I was getting all gussied up to leave, I found a new pair of Jeans!!  They were hanging  off to the side of my normal jeans hang area.   Wonder how long they been there? :-)

Speaking of knives, I got to thinking where all mine were,  Well, I found these anyway

The top one is a Buck from about 1975 or so. I cleaned many deer with him. :-)    the next is a Parker Brothers Chattanooga TN bone handle, the black one is another modern day Buck 450U  with the synthetic handle  The bone handled one is a  Walden "uncle Henry:" Big blade broke of years ago. I used it daily when I was wiring houses back in the 70's. there is another small Buck  model   The double blade is a pen knife from my Grandfather,  probably turn of the century

NOONISH now  and I just ran out to check the mail ( none)  MAN it is way to nice to stay in.. Quick as I eat something I'm headed outside..

So, I was sitting here eyeball deep in some software, tying to  make it do what I know it should when the phone Brought me back to the  real world.
Was buddy Jim down in Austin checking in.  Said he had sent an email and what did I think?  Well, hell I ain't read the email yet, but did .. What it is , is, he is making me  a set of headstones to replace the ones for my kittys out back.  Dang these things he's making I would be proud to be buried under!!  Just said he wanted to confirm that what he was making was upto snuff. DUH!! it' much more than I was thinking of. Shoot, here is the first one.

Only two more to go.

News guy just said that we set a record high for today!! So it was a busy day!!  Moon Eclipse, warmest day , and winter starts :-)

I  just got a GREAT phone call .. The Doctor called who had dug out my bump of shin cancer and reported that the lab said they got it all!!!  Whoopie!!!     now if the stitches would quick itching..................

Man,here it  is only 9:30  and my eyes are getting heavy already. A software update.  After I went to all the trouble to down load and load up Nero Burning suite and related software I removed it..  I remember using Nero years ago and it was a snap!! Now it appears in an attempt o "fix" it,they screwed it up.  That dammed thing now is so bloated as to be almost impossible to do a simple task. And every dammed time I went to start it,, it wanted to download some update.  BS,, I ain't got the time for those kind of BS headaches. All I was wanting to do  was edit some VOM files to make them readable on line with out having to load up more dammed software.

BS,,guess I'm outta here.

Monday, December 20, Last week for Shopping

You STILL not finished with your Christmas shopping?   Well you got 6 days,  to wrap it up. Drag out your credit card and get busy!! ( shopping at the local stop and go don't count!!! )

You can't use the weather as an excuse for dang sure.

53.3 °F  (54°F  Here)
Overcast
Humidity:     93%
Wind:     11.0 mph from the SSE
Visibility:     7.0 miles
Dew Point:     51 °F
Precipitation:     4% chance of precipitation
Pressure:     29.79 in (Falling)

Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 74. South southwest wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

BTW, if you plan on shopping at one of the "Moonlight Madness" Sales.  Tomorrow night would be a special night to do it..  ECLIPSE.  Of course Hermit Jim covers it as well. Can't slip anything by him can you? :-)

SO? What you got planned for today?  Me?  Thinking real serious about heading over to Granbury Texas ( bout an hour away) to see my sainted Mother. Since all of us boys ( 5 of us, no sisters) have grown up and moved away , of course we don't do the big family get togethers any more.  BUT here's one ole 8MM  film converted to Digital from back around 1958 with some stuff around 1960. ( I never have figured out how to edit out the sections )  So , if you bored and got a few minutes, Click here!!

Gotta get more coffee and gag my pills down,  find some breakfast, THEN I'll fiiger out the rest of the day.

BBL  ya betcha!!

BUT WAIT!!! THERE'S MORE!!!
OK, geeks!  Here's the deal, several years ago I had a bunch of ole 8mm film transferred to digital format and put on CD's. What I am looking for is a program that will allow me to edit VOB files  Some like those up there. http://www.youtube.com/user/BenNtexas#p/u/53/VpSFpA88McE      (I've got more here.)     After digging around the internet for awhile, at this point I guess I am willing to pay for a program. BUT since I don't know any of those programs or companies, I appeal to YOU for some advice &/or experience.   Seriously!!!   Point me to some software..

almost 11 now. Made the decision to drive out and see Mother ( maybe I'll score a free lunch:-)  )

So, y'all talk amongst yourselves and I'll be back probably later this afternoon ,but for dang sure before dark. And yes, I  got the camera (s) with me..

See ya.

Told YA!!!  Almost 4 PM  and I'm back. Mother and I had a good visit and even got her to talk a bit about some of her early family to Texas,  Was going to get some more, but  Brother came to take her to a Doctors appointment. So we said our goodbyes and they left and so did I I.   I got home in time for a quick lunch and am now in the process of uploading a video for all you aviation enthusiast. I'll give you the link when they get uploaded.   HERE is IS
Otherwise, still awaiting a response from Nero about the issue I'm having with the program reinstall.
BOY I tell ya what this weather is sure screwed up, here it is near Xmas and it's 81 outside!!  Cats are in and out, soaking up all of it they can get.

BTW,   9PM  Who ever it was of you loyal followers that told me about the dry packaged gravy?  THANK YOU!!!  Made up some last night for my chicken nuggets as a dipping sauce and used the rest tonite for my hamburger steak and rice thingy. GOOD STUFF :-)

10+PM  after actually using the kitchen and the stove tonight , I had to clean up the pots and pans . AND the dammed stove top  But it's all  ready for tomorrow., ( oops, brb, gotta make up the coffee pot )
There, that's done, both cats are in,so after I fool with the cotton picking VOB file editor ( it worked fine on the first attempt, but I screwed up. )  Guess I better give it up cause again that drive out and back wore me out. DO NOT understand that at all.

Night all

Sunny Sunday Dec 19, 2010

Well, again this morning I woke up with something on my mind that I really wanted to do,, But between waking and  first cuppa here at the table. Just slap ass forgot what it was. Maybe I need a voice recorder that will kick on and record when I talk?  Naw..  I'd just forget to put batteries in it!!

Was a bit nippy this moring , ( we used to have a lame joke when we'd meet on the launch field to fly balloons, " Little Nip in the air huh? "  "yea, just like a Japanese flying school" )

Anywho , where was I?... OH yea, Weather

Like, I soo tottally understand that!!  ^^^

BC won't display just the picture, so live with it!!  Click HERE

A bit later now, paper and breakfast out of the way.  Buddy  Dizzy Dick  got to talking about cars. Being a certified ole fart, I've had a bunch over the  years, but the ONE I would like to have again was 1977  International Scout II Terra  pickup!! Had a big bad boy 345 V8, automatic tyranny and REAL Warner lock out front hubs. With the dual range transmission.
Removable fiberglass top.  The thing would climb straight  up!!   Sold it when I went to work for Xerox and got a free company car.
Wish I had it back

I passed on buying a 1960 sumthing RR silver cloud not too many years ago. Mechanically it was fine. But the body showed signs of bondo repairs.  BTW, it was right hand drive.

Whew,, Looked up at the clock from all the computer futzing and  it read 2PM  So I quit and got some lunch. This dammed wireless Brother printer is killing me I tell ya!!  I read every install instructions I could find and  Vaffanculo!!!,it still ain't working.  Fortunally my one in the office is working and it's on the network wireless  But I gotta walk in there and get what ever I print!!! ( wonder if my geek guy is really gonna come by even though he said he quit that side line business )

Shoot, think I'll prop my feet up and possibility examine the insides of my eyelids :-)

So,  Horse walks into the bar. The bartender says ' Hey Mate. Why the long face"? .. (  groan)

OK, Clock struck 6PM and dammed football is on,good time to go make some supper I guess.   But!!  before I go. I found an article from good ole Dave Barry for ya.  Not going to paste it here, you can click and go read all  about his Colonoscopy Journal

You're welcome America!! :-)

10PM..   Well OK then, we all made it through the day. Coffee pot made up, kitchen cleaned up, cats doing their pre-bed nap  guess I'll give it up.

Hell, they gonna have to wait it's only 3:20   Had to make a quick run up towards town and saw this sittin. PARTY BUS!!   I had thought went I saw it first at 60MPH it was real faded, but it's not!! It's aluminum!!  Top looks Ok, from the ground Anyway, one draw back is that it's a manual shift!!  Dammed, it'd take a leg like a tree trunk to hold the clutch in.   Wonder what ya'd have inside once you got the seats out?

Shoot,, a couple of years ago I'd jumped on it.

Well, lookie here, made it to 10 PM  , but that big ole plate of spagitte  like to have put me slap out tosleep.

So, guess I'll give it up and then tackle tomorrow when it get's here.

Don't have to be to the docs, will noon, so I got time this morning to work on screwing up the computer today!!
I "think" I have copied off all the info I need off the big one and saved it to a this good ole Dell.( get those saved passwords!!! )

I works OK, but has a small screen and it's running XP Professional. ( no support for it anymore)     One issue I am having , and I've had it before , is getting the wireless Brother printer to work,  but I 'll slowly walk through the setup again .

As you may well know, (if your a certified ole fart like me) is when things don't work right we get all bumfuzzled
( yes it's a real word, look it up ) and frustrated!!  But fortunately I got time to do this, IF I just take my time and make notes as I go along.
( scratching head here Wonder how long it really took ole Billy Bob to get his back up and running?)

BTW, my local guy here that does specials on the TV, this morning did a story about this place. DEALS DEALS!!  OH well, looking is free.. Just don't lay your master card out while you looking there, OK?

OK,  nuther cuppa and git after the fixing!!

Well OK, Then,,  1thirtyish , and all done  with the "spot removal" lady Doc  . Took an extra needle full of that deading stuff but my arm finally went dead, just like you slept on it all night!!  Then she started pulling and yanking and all sorts of mean and  nasty stuff.   Got out her  upholstery sewing tread and needle and sticked it up. Couple inside and a couple out side.  Here's the  stitched up shot with the square knots. Shoot I've seen better looking chickens all stuffed and stitched up for roasting than that! :-)  Course got to go back in couple weeks to take them out

So, back home and as soon as my left over pizza is warm, gonna eat that then get on to serious reloading of the  OTHER laptop.

I'm Baaaack!!!   Clock just struck 6PM  and my big computer is back up. Of course not everything is totally configured, but it's back up and running.    Like I need to figer out how the hell to get my wireless printer to work again!!!  That thing fights me every time ..
But right now?   Thinking spaghetti with sauce and meatballs. :-)

10PM   Yep, that supper was right on target AND the Cheesecake desert didn't hurt any :-)  Dang sure made my eyelids heavy though. :-)  Shoot, think I'll just give it up and see what tomorrow brings.

See y'all tomorrow.

Thursday, Dec 16.. Dead in the Water

Well, it appears that the dammed HP big laptop is  kapute!!.  Well, the software is anyway. Don't know what's going on but it is acting a lot like Billy Bob was talking about his doing last week or two. EXCEPT my fan ain't screaming at me. :-)

So this Thursday Morning I dusted off and fired up this Dell laptop!! I can get online just fine, even remembered some passwords.
Now all I got to do is, print out my user names and passwords from the other computer.   Make a list of what programs  I need to reinstall on here. The hardest thing is going to be I guess reloading MC Office and all it's files
Wish me luck. I know this all seems like a small thing to all y'all,, but to me is is devastating.

Just for your information, yes I have run diagnose on the other machine and it appears to NOT have a virus but it sure acts like it does.

Wish we luck..  Back later hopefully

Dang near forgot the  weather

39.9 °F (yep)

Visibility:     7.0 miles
Dew Point:     30 °F
Precipitation:     0% Chance of Rain
Pressure:     29.92 in (Rising)

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 54. North wind between 10 and 20 mph.

Later that morning,, 11:20 AM,,   Was sitting here putzing with this machine and awaiting a call from my Geek when the phone rang , Wasn't the geek but rather the doc that did the spot removal on my arm the other day. They got the biopsy back and turns out is is Basal Cell carcinoma  And they want to whack it off. So, guess I'll set that up to be done. She assured me that is is an in and out thing. They use the big ole horse poking needles and deaden it , then just slice it off with a dull kitchen knife, sew it back up with  some knitting needles and yarn and send me home.  So, told her to call my regular doc and I'd  git er done as soon as she approves it. (update!!! Tomorrow at noon... There goes lunch! :-)   )

That Cat ain't in Texas !!!!

Supper time, BUT there's sumething wrong with my pizza!!

Everybody, knows that cornbread can be square, but Pizza's are round.. Wonder if the odd shape may effect the taste. And how the hell you supposed to cut it?
